Meet Odin Industries – A Boutique Business Consultancy That Focuses On Small To Medium-Sized Businesses

Listen to this article

Below is our recent interview with Ryan Hawley, CEO of Odin Industries:

Q: This is the first time we have spoken. Can you provide a brief overview of Odin Industries?

A: Odin Industries is a boutique business consultancy that focuses on small to medium-sized businesses. We offer a full-spectrum of services including business development, channel distribution, SEO, digital marketing, and operational assessments. We work across a wide variety of industries and develop a personalized action plan for each client. We have a fully decentralized operation and often work out of our client’s offices. In some cases, we act as a sales executive for hire and for others we work to optimize their operations to allow them to scale.

I have been a serial entrepreneur since I was 17 years old. My first company was a highly successful rave promotion company back home in Canada. When I started Odin Industries, I had just left a company that I had founded and taken to an acquisition. It was no longer a good fit for me, and I knew that I needed a change.

I found myself in the position of needing to reinvent myself during the worst economy since the depression. I did not want to take a day job, and looked at the challenges of the pandemic as an opportunity to build something new. I believe I was born with sales in my blood. I am the son of a lifetime salesman, and always gravitated to roles that I could dictate my economic outcomes based on my performance. I noticed a void in the market for business development services directed at small to medium-sized businesses.

Q: What are the key benefits of using your services?

A: I think my past history of building and scaling my own businesses has been instrumental to our success. I understand the challenges and struggles that business owners face. I take the lead with sales training and business development. Our clients had many needs that did not fall into my wheelhouse so I starting building a team with expertise in areas I didn’t. We can now offer a full-service offering including business development, SEO, digital marketing, and sales training.

We developed a proprietary system to assess a business and start generating revenue quickly for our clients. Each client receives a personalized assessment and action plan. We pull in different members of the team based specifically on the client’s needs. For example, a client that is looking for help with establishing new distribution channels we will pull in sales experts and the design team for pitch deck and presentation development. Other clients may want to grow their audience on Instagram or Facebook. We will work with them using proven strategies to grow their followers and increase engagement.

A lot of our clients seek us out when they are struggling. The pandemic has hurt a lot of businesses and forced them into a position to pivot or perish. We use our decades of experience to assess their needs and help them execute on the plan.

Q: Can you describe a typical use case or customer scenario?

A: Our clients tend to fall into two specific buckets. The first is businesses that are struggling and want help to turn around their businesses. Often, they have been referred by other clients or have found us online. We take the time to understand their businesses intimately. During our initial assessment we will individually interview members from all the departments within the organization. This includes everyone from the CEO to frontline customer service representatives. We want to understand what is working well in the organization and should be amplified. We also want to understand the operational issues and sales challenges. We will review financial data, pricing models, and relevant competitors. Following the initial assessment, we will provide the client with a plan that they can either execute themselves or engage us long-term to help them.

The second group of clients have successful businesses that are looking for expertise for a certain project or scaling into new markets. For example, we are working with a successful pet wellness company King Kanine. They engaged Odin Industries to help break into the Canadian market. We are helping them with the import licensing and developing distribution channels in this new market.

Many of our clients engage us long-term to assist with business development. We will provide ongoing sales and business development support. In these types of engagements, we will earn a commission based on the revenue we generate for our clients.

Q: What makes Odin Industries unique in the market?

A: Almost all of our consultants have run their own successful businesses prior to joining the team. We have worked across a variety of industries and hold strong business contacts. Rather than simply providing advice we actively participate in the sales process. We only hold a limited number of clients, and work in lockstep with their teams. I often work out of client offices two or three times a week. We also provide phone coaching options that our clients can access for a quick question or opinion. I think that level of personalized service sets us apart in the market.

Q: How would you convince the reader to start using Odin Industries?

A: Our proven record success is the best tool we have for growing our client base. A large percentage of our leads are generated by client referrals. We provide a level of personalized service that is unmatched in the industry. When paired with the financial successes our clients achieve it makes for a compelling story.
