BUX is a tech company on a mission to rock the world of finance. Their mobile app makes stock trading easy, social and affordable. Launched in 2014, BUX now has over 1.2 million users across 8 countries in Europe. By removing all the complexity associated with the financial markets and reimagining the stock trading experience, BUX is helping new generations to discover investing for the first time. Below is our interview with Nick Bortot, CEO & Co-founder of BUX:
Q: You’ve recently announced $12.46 Million Series C Funding round; could you tell us something more?
A: We’re incredibly grateful for the support we have received from the venture capital and angel investor communities. In total, we have raised almost 20 Million euros over the past four years. The latest round was led by Holtzbrinck Ventures, a renowned venture capital firm in Europe and one of the first investors in the likes of Zalando, Flixbus and HelloFresh.
Velocity Capital also supported the round. Holtzbrinck and Velocity were early shareholders in the company. Both have increased their share in BUX in the latest round, so it’s a clear sign of trust in the direction BUX is heading in.

Q: How would you convince the reader to start using BUX?
A: Our app takes what’s been traditionally seen as super complicated and makes the stock trading experience easy, intuitive and educational. When you first join, you start trading with virtual money (called funBUX) so you can learn how to trade in a risk-free way. Once you get the hang of it, you can move on to investing with real money. The great thing about BUX is that you don’t need a huge up-front capital. You can invest a small amount and commissions start at just 25 cents (or pence if you’re in the UK).
It’s also a highly social experience as you can connect with a large and vibrant community on BUX. You can swap opinions with other users and follow experienced traders for tips and strategies.
Q: Tell us something more about funBUX?
A: funBUX enables people to discover the world of trading in a risk-free environment that mirrors the real markets. With BUX, newbies get the opportunity to be educated about the financial markets while being safeguarded from the potential pitfalls of trading. This is so they can learn and get comfortable with trading at their own pace. If you’re inexperienced, you’re required to practice with funBUX first before you’re allowed to switch to real money, or seriousBUX. This lets people dip their toe in the water, so to speak, before they jump into the deep end of the pool.

Q: What are your plans for the future?
A: With the capital raised from our last funding round as well as our current crowdfunding campaign with Seedrs, our primary goal is to expand our product offering. We’re planning to introduce a full suite of apps that will be focused on different investment needs. Over the next year, we will launch a long-term investing app as well as a cryptocurrency investment app, due to substantial user interest in cryptos. Ultimately, by 2020, BUX aims to be the destination for those who would like to do more with their money.
