A: With Automated Storage Tiering, IT Administrators can easily set up scheduled movement of data from expensive all-flash pools of storage into low-cost hybrid storage pools, automatically, based on file age. The ability to automate the movement of data across a storage grid is a universal IT need that can be solved with Automated Storage Tiering in the QuantaStor SDS platform.

Media and Entertainment companies in particular see a need for this feature as post-production studios have high performance requirements on active projects and lower performance requirements after projects are completed. Automated Storage Tiering meets this need by enabling IT administrators to move data from hot storage to cold storage with ease.

Q: What are the benefits of QuantaStor SDS Automated Storage Tiering?

A: Automated Storage Tiering not only backs up data, it creates snapshots within the QuantaStor appliance for easy data recovery. The number of retained snapshots is configurable to meet recovery time objectives and SLAs. QuantaStor also uses a parallelized backup engine to quickly scan very large filesystems with hundreds of millions of files to make better use of network bandwidth. Automated Storage Tiering can also be configured to move data as well as copy data, and users can choose files based on a specified file age ranges.

Another key benefit of Automated Storage Tiering is that QuantaStor Network Shares are accessible via NFS and SMB protocols and the Backup Policies can be used to backup data to or from Windows servers, Linux-based servers, and 3rd party NAS filers including NetApp, EMC Isilon, EMC VNX, and S3 compatible object storage when combined with QuantaStor Cloud Containers.

A: With Advanced Storage Analytics, QuantaStor SDS v4.5 will let users visualize file, block, and object storage utilization in graphs, charts, and real-time dashboards to better understand their storage needs and simplify capacity planning. The QuantaStor web-based grid management interface also includes real-time visual presentation of block storage performance, network utilization, CPU and memory utilization, object storage utilization, and network health diagnostics.

Advanced Storage Analytics helps organizations boost their IT agility by being able to visually see how storage assets are deployed, as well as the ability to gather utilization metrics to make capacity planning more efficient.
