OSNEXUS’ QuantaStor SDS Increases IT Agility By Enabling Organizations To Leverage Hardware From Any Vendor

Listen to this article

OSNEXUS provides custom storage solutions for organizations that need file, block or object storage on-premises in physical datacenters, as well as in the public cloud with Virtual Storage Appliances (VSAs) for those that host data in the IBM or Microsoft Azure cloud. Using the QuantaStor SDS platform and pairing it with commodity hardware, OSNEXUS can tackle any storage workload and datacenter setup. QuantaStor’s grid technology also enables the scaling of storage up and out to 64 physical or virtual storage appliances and 64 petabytes of storage locally or dispersed across geographies. Below is our interview with Steven Umbehocker, CEO at OSNEXUS Corporation:

steven-umbehocker-osnexusQ: Steven, what are some key features of QuantaStor that apply to the Big Data industry?

A: Some key QuantaStor SDS features include:

· High availability to make deployments faster and easier.
· Integrated RAID management from all popular RAID vendors to make drive replacement and management simple.
· Flexible storage pool architecture that supports the use of two underlying pool types to accommodate varying data velocity and throughput scenarios.
· Scale-up capabilities for petabyte-scale grid storage for uses and data types such as rich media, high-performance compute, near-line storage, data compliance, private cloud and offsite archive.

Q: How does OSNEXUS address security, both user and data?

A: QuantaStor SDS includes end-to-end security coverage enabling multi-layer data protection “on the wire” and “at rest” for enterprise and cloud storage deployments. QuantaStor combines protocol-level encryption with SMB, IPsec, and HTTPS across any storage grid, and has hardware and software disk drive encryption with Intel AES-NI technology and advanced user security featuring role-based access controls.

As for user security, QuantaStor goes beyond basic Role Based Access Control (RBAC) with Advanced User Security by masking user permissions and allowing administrators to grant permissions for users at the storage object level, to all objects in the user’s associated cloud(s) or to the entire storage system.

Q: How would you convince the reader to start using your products?

A: QuantaStor SDS helps companies overcome one of the biggest IT challenges today, reducing and eliminating storage silos. Storage silos are caused when traditional SAN/NAS systems add additional appliances and increase in complexity due to independent management of the appliances. With QuantaStor, all data is managed as one unit referred to as a storage grid. This makes storage easier to manage, especially at hyperscale which are deployments in the 10PB to 100PB range.

OSNEXUS has engineered out the complexity that historically has burdened organizations who struggle to keep up with massive data growth, to simplify storage processes for IT professionals in all types of industries. QuantaStor SDS increases IT agility by enabling organizations to leverage hardware from any vendor, as well as the option to use existing IT infrastructure to create a custom storage solution to any storage need. Organizations can achieve massive scale by increasing storage capacity and performance as needed up to 64 nodes and 64 petabytes.

QuantaStor has a number of features that cater to some of the most data-intensive industries today, such as media & entertainment, finance, law enforcement, healthcare, HPC, life sciences, and more.
