Ridge AI Raises $2.6 Million In Pre-Seed Funding

Listen to this article

Ridge AI secured $2.6 million in pre-seed funding led by Madrona. The round will fuel development of its AI native embedded analytics platform for B2B SaaS companies, enabling rapid deployment of interactive dashboards and conversational AI agents.

Ridge AI has raised $2.6 million in pre-seed funding to accelerate its emergence from stealth as the provider of AI native embedded analytics purpose built for B2B software companies. The round was led by Madrona, with participation from TheFounderVC and a select group of angels featuring founding and senior leaders from Tableau, Trifacta, Streamlit, Cloudera, and Stanford’s AI Lab. This capital infusion provides the runway for platform development, team expansion focused on data scientists and engineers, and controlled rollout of its closed beta program.

How Ridge AI works?

The funding validates a targeted solution to a persistent friction in the SaaS ecosystem: product and customer success teams invest months of engineering effort to build and maintain customer facing dashboards that prove product value, only to divert resources from core differentiation. Ridge eliminates this trade-off by enabling fully interactive, embedded dashboards and AI data agents that deploy in hours rather than months. A “ridge” consists of a browser native dashboard and a companion AI agent that share the same dataset, allowing end users to explore visualizations and ask natural language follow-up questions with immediate, context aware responses. The platform processes millions of rows with sub-second interactivity directly in the browser via the open source Mosaic framework, WebAssembly, and an in-browser DuckDB instance, eliminating per query cloud costs and server side infrastructure overhead that plague traditional embedded BI tools.

This technical approach represents a convergence of advances that only recently became viable: large language models for conversational analytics, mature browser compute capabilities, and decades of data visualization research embodied in Mosaic (created by Ridge’s chief scientist). Unlike heavyweight enterprise BI platforms or generic embed solutions that require ongoing maintenance and specialized skills, Ridge is engineered for SaaS teams whose customers demand proof of ROI amid tightening budgets and consolidation pressures, often termed the “SaaS-pocalypse.” By embedding these capabilities natively into the vendor’s product, Ridge turns analytics from a cost center into a renewal driver.

The investor syndicate is exceptionally aligned with the problem and technology. Madrona’s investment was spearheaded by Managing Director Tim Porter and Venture Partner Mark Nelson, the former CEO of Tableau and CTO of Concur, where Nelson personally grappled with the exact pain of maintaining non core customer analytics. Angel participation includes Tableau co-founder and former CTO Chris Stolte, Streamlit founder Adrien Treuille, former Tableau CMO Elissa Fink, Trifacta co-founder Jeff Heer (who also serves as Ridge’s chief scientist), Cloudera founder Jeff Hammerbacher, and Carlos Guestrin of Stanford’s AI Lab. This roster brings unparalleled institutional knowledge in data visualization, product analytics, and AI infrastructure, lending immediate credibility and strategic guidance at the earliest stage.

Ridge’s founding team further strengthens the thesis. CEO Ellie Fields spent more than a decade in product and marketing leadership at Tableau before becoming Chief Product and Engineering Officer at Salesloft, where she repeatedly encountered the dashboard-building bottleneck. Chief Scientist Jeff Heer is a University of Washington professor and co-director of the Interactive Data Lab; his contributions include foundational open source tools such as D3.js and Vega, and he co-founded Trifacta, which was acquired by Alteryx in 2022. Early team members include founding engineer Andy Caley (ex Tableau) and founding research engineer Fritz Lekschas (Harvard Ph.D. with more than 20 publications in data visualization). The founders’ Seattle roots and Madrona’s introduction of Fields and Heer underscore the ecosystem advantage: deep local talent density in analytics and cloud software.

At this pre-seed stage, the $2.6 million round is calibrated for disciplined execution rather than rapid scale. Ridge is onboarding a limited number of beta customers each week through applications at ridgedata.ai, prioritizing product refinement and early validation in the embedded analytics wedge. The company intends to remain focused on B2B SaaS vendors for at least the next couple of years before broadening scope, allowing it to build defensible distribution channels and network effects within a high intent customer base already accustomed to embedding third party components.

The round positions Ridge AI as an immediate contender in the evolving embedded analytics landscape. By combining battle tested domain expertise, a novel browser first architecture, and AI accessibility, the company addresses a structural inefficiency that has persisted across SaaS generations. With elite backers who have lived the problem and built category defining companies around its components, Ridge enters the market with both technical moat and execution velocity that few early stage analytics startups can match. The capital ensures the team can convert pilot momentum into production deployments and prepare for the next phase of growth once beta traction materializes.
