Below is our recent interview with Melody Avecilla, CEO at Runway Heels:
Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to Runway Heels?
A: We are proud to say that Runway heels is the world’s first push button retractable high heels. It’s patented one-click flats to heels and back technology is the ultimate solution for the modern women-on-the-go. Why carry 2 pairs of shoes when you can have one? Our philosophy of “ Live without compromise” , does not only mean not compromising comfort and safety for style. It also extends to not compromising on our values as we stand on our belief of being eco friendly and saying “no” to human injustice. Our collection are vegan and we are committed in supporting causes that fight human trafficking.

Q: Melody, what’s your backstory? How did your company come into being?
A: I am an entrepreneur at heart. Since early 2000, I’ve founded a multi line insurance agency in the San Fernando valley while at the same time co-founding a residential care for elders and some real estate ventures. The project got incubated during our “Start Up Venture” class during my Executive MBA program at Loyola Marymount. I wanted to create a solution for the age old problem of women for generations. Women can’t have enough of their high heels yet prolonged use creates not only medical problem but hazard such as slip and fall. Bunions, sciata, osteoporosis are just some of the side effects seen from life long constant use of high heels. Not to mention the hassle and inconvenience of carrying 2 pairs of shoes. It’s the shoes that adapt to the changing needs of the modern women throughout the day, from runway to subway, car to bar, catwalk to sidewalk, boardroom to boardwalk, one pair of shoes.
Q: Can you give us insights into your design process?
A: It’s the ultimate fusion of science and art. After 2 years of being turned down by at least half a dozen shoe expert worldwide, I finally decided to pivot and find solution from a different industry. This is when I went from high end design solution experts in Silicon Valley ( I also got turned down by a few before finding the right one) to mechanical engineers to eventually getting the patent last January. In total, it took 4 years to see the actual pair into fruition.
