To find out more about their platform we sat down with Kiren Sekar, VP of Marketing and Product Management at Samsara:
Q: Why is now the time for a technology solution like Samsara?
A: The technology transformations of the past decade – the ubiquity of wireless data networks, low-cost and power-efficient sensor silicon, cloud computing and big data – now make it possible for every-day industrial companies to capture data from their operations and to use cloud software to analyze it.
This would have been impossible 5-10 years ago, before these enabling technologies became mainstream.
However, there’s a big gap between the raw technology ingredients, and an easy-to-use and business-relevant solution that customer can easily deploy and benefit from. This is Samsara’s opportunity, and our focus.
Q: You’ve recently announced $40 Million in Series C Round; could you tell us something more?
A: The round, which brings our total funding to $80M, enables us to take a long-term view to R&D and growth. We didn’t need the money – we had over 2/3 of our previous financing on-hand, and we were growing revenues at over 250% annually. But the new funding enables us to make new investments in technology and focus on the long-term impact of Samsara, while continuing our growth. In the short term, we plan to double out company from 100 employees to 200 by year’s end.
Q: What products do you offer to your clients?
A: We offer complete systems – including both hardware and software – for customers to capture data from their physical operations, and to harness that data to improve efficiency. We offer models for commercial vehicles as well as industrial assets. Our customers use the products to improve their safety, increase quality and customer service, lower operating cost, and simplify compliance.
Q: What are your plans for the future?
A: While we can’t talk about new product plans for competitive reasons, we are working on new software and hardware for both transportation and industrial segments, and we’re aggressively growing our engineering, sales, and marketing. We’ve got a lot of exciting developments in progress, and I’m looking forward to telling you more about them when they launch!
Q: Tell us something more about Samsara VG34?
A: The VG34 is our newest hardware product. It is designed specifically for vehicles. It is our first product to use high-speed 4G LTE cellular connectivity, which enables it to seamlessly stream HD video form our camera modules, and provide high-speed WiFi connectivity to mobile devices.Activate Social Media:
