Q: Robert, could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to Scott & Scott, LLP?
A: We are a boutique intellectual property and technology law firm located in Southlake, Texas (in the Dallas-Fort Worth area). Our firm was founded in 1999 on the premise that collaboration between legal and technology professionals is necessary to solve complex business problems.
Q: What advantage does Scott & Scott have over its competitors?
A: Our team of legal and technology professionals provide software audit defense and IT compliance solutions, all protected by attorney-client and work-product privileges. We are one of the few national firms with a dedicated practice group focusing on defending companies accused of software piracy by the BSA | The Software Alliance and the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA).
By combining legal and technology resources in one firm, we strive to serve our clients’ needs better than law firms or technology services firms working independently. Today, legal and technology market forces are ever changing, and we are committed to monitoring the developing technology and emerging law in order to provide highly-focused representation.

Q: You’ve been recently named best Technology Law Firm in the U.S.A. by Finance Monthly; could you tell us something more?
A: Scott & Scott was named Technology Law Firm of the Year – USA by Finance Monthly in the Finance Monthly Law Awards 2016 . The firm was also recognized as Technology Law Firm of the Year by Lawyers Worldwide Awards Magazine in their Global Leading Lawyers 2016 issue. We are honored to be recognized by the voters for these awards. We are grateful to our clients and staff who are responsible for our success.
Q: What are your plans for the future?
A: Our plans are to continue serving our clients with the high standards we have become known for. As technology evolves we will continue to adapt by staying on the forefront of these changes.
We are in lease negotiations for new office space with upgraded amenities and will be moving in the next few months as soon as the construction of the building is completed not far from our current location.

Q: You’ve achieved “go-to” status for software licensing transactions and disputes; could you tell us something more about your experience in this field?
A: We have handled more than five hundred software license disputes involving major publishers and their trade associations (BSA | The Software Association, and the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA). We have negotiated over $100 million in technology transactions and advised some of the world’s largest corporations on privacy and security matters.
