For the past thirty years, StarGarden’s team have focused on developing a great products and innovative software solutions in the HR and Payroll solution world. Below is our interview with Marnie Larson, CEO of StarGarden Corporation, the makers of StarGarden HCM software. They recently launched StarGarden HCM 5.0 an integrated HCM and Payroll system with iPaaS (integrated platform as a service), HR shared services and workflow automation capabilities.
Q: Marnie, what advantage does StarGarden have over its competitors?
A: The unique thing about StarGarden is the agile platform it is built on. Unlike other HR software, StarGarden is not restricted to a particular domain and allows linking to other systems and building of apps that companies need per their requirements. We can equip an organization with all the tools they’ll need to fulfill their HR management, shared services and business process automation requirements without bearing the extra expense of trying to find the right middleware to integrate with other systems in an organization.
We are able to satisfy not just the current needs of the organization but also the future needs as organizations grow and evolve. Organizations get a great return on investment as time, money, and effort are saved which are all tangible benefits that directly go to the bottom line.

Q: You’ve recently announced the release of StarGarden HCM 5.0, tell us something more?
A: We have made a considerable investment building a system that can solve the problems businesses face. People and productivity analytics have become a driving force behind successful organizations. StarGarden HCM 5.0 has been built to provide a holistic approach to analysis and process automation by overlaying other business applications in the organization and driving task driven workflows for users from individualized task lists. Users can easily and securely access the easy data required to complete tasks as required. The intelligent business rules engine that sits at the center of the technology, allows defining of processes and rules to cater to the ever changing needs of an organization.

The system is defined by role based access and with the amount of data security threats going around we provide organizations with the extra level of assurance of having access management in place that can be controlled centrally. Data and access to applications is only provided as required by the user for a specific task being completed. We help organizations be procedurally compliant by having rules in place to delegate authority for situations such as vacation leave, terminating access of an employee when they leave an organization, or even setting a spending budget for executives for travel related expenses. We give users the ability to use our system on any device they choose and make all features available on the go.
Q: What problems do you see in the current human capital management and business process automation landscape?
A: Disconnected enterprise IT eco systems are hurting organizations in a major way without them realizing it. It is a catch 22 scenario, where organizations need to keep moving ahead and bringing on new HR, Talent and performance management systems to give them the competitive advantage they desire but what also happens is the various systems remain uncommunicative and the required data insights you would expect to get from them are lost as the systems do not talk to each other resulting in a loss of productivity. Every organization seems to have some kind of data integration project underway and part of the reason is their processes are not automated and they need to re-evaluate if there is a better way of doing things.

StarGarden is a learning organization and considerable resources and effort goes into R&D trying to make our product even better. Q: What’s the best thing about StarGarden that people might not know about?
A: StarGarden has been around for over 30 years and we have concentrated in the HR and Payroll solution world that whole time. We understand this space and we have long tenured employees that have decades of experience under their belt. I know all software providers claim they form partnerships with clients but we truly practice it. We train client’s IT administrators, HR managers and Payroll people alike so they become self-sufficient and confident about their learning of the system that helps them to resolve any issues they may have in future once initial implementation is complete. Our consultative approach ensures we leave champions in place who will train the rest of the organization and help with change management. The best compliment we received recently from a customer was, “The StarGarden team is an exceptional group of people that will always hold a special place in my heart! You guys made the transition to a new human resource and payroll system compelling and pleasant.”
