Xapo A new way to Bank

I’m always pleased to learn about startups that are related to Bitcoin, and to be fair – it’s quite funny that I do, as I was not one of those people who believed in the success of Bitcoin at the very early stages, but now, it almost seems inevitable. Xapo lets you build your very own debit card based on your Bitcoin wallet balance – pretty cool!

Xapo is wonderful in a way that it tries to provide a transparent service for managing your money through the means of a Bitcoin wallet. The product offers free and instantaneous money transfers across all of the World, and that is not something you could say about your local bank, is it?

It appears that there is some heated discussion regarding the monthly fees, as it was promised that those who’d sign up for the beta, would not have to pay any monthly fees in the future. At first, it didn’t seem true, but Xapo has taken care of this and granted the original statement to those who were part of their beta program. Here is an official snapshot of the Xapo fees.

But, there is more. At the moment, Xapo debit cards are not available Worldwide, and might disappoint a few eager techies that were hoping to jump on the party train. Here is an official statement from the Xapo team.

“Unfortunately, due to financial regulations in the U.S. and India, Xapo cannot currently ship debit cards to addresses located in the U.S. or India. We have worked hard on providing a way for users to conveniently transact with bitcoin and will continue to work towards this goal while complying with all levels of local and international regulations. We will begin shipping cards to addresses in the U.S. and India this fall and we will keep you notified of any and all developments.”

All that aside, Xapo does provide a great layer of security for your money and Bitcoins through their Xapo Vault technology. You’re guaranteed full protection of your funds, and there are multiple layers of security attached to each account, including those of legal law.

All in all, it’s a service that will surely inspire more businesses to take different approaches, and maybe even encourage them to start accepting Bitcoins, as a very large proportion of the web already does. Are you a customer of Xapo’s and have you gotten your own card yet?
