Tanaza Unveils A Cloud-Based Operating System For WiFi Access Points

Below is our recent interview with Sebastiano Bertani, the Founder and CEO of Tanaza:

Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to Tanaza?

A: Tanaza was founded in Milan, Italy in 2010, as a result of the opportunity created by the WiFi hardware commoditization trend.

With the goal of disrupting the WiFi market, we developed a cloud-management platform for wireless access points, a couponing system that allows the deployment of free and paid public WiFi hotspots (that includes integrations with 3rd parties marketing automation systems), and an analytics tool to monitor and analyze the experience of WiFi users.

In 2017, we closed our first Enterprise-level six-figure deal, and just last year, during the Wi-Fi NOW Conference in Berlin in November 2018, Tanaza received the “Best Enterprise Wi-Fi Solution” award. And as of recently, we also launched our latest product – TanazaOS, and we are super excited.

Q: You’ve recently unveiled TanazaOS, the cloud-based Operating System for WiFi Access Points; could you tell us something more?

A: The TanazaOS concept was created based on the idea of disaggregation, which meant offering the option to select an OS from one vendor and run it on compatible hardware from a different manufacturer. This OS can run on any virtually white-box and open-hardware networking device, giving Managed Solution Providers, System Integrators, and ISPs an unprecedented possibility to decouple their hardware choice from their software choice, with considerable cost savings and efficiency advantages.

Q: What are the main benefits provided by TanazaOS?

A: From a technical point of view, TanazaOS enables communication between wireless access points and a cloud-based unified management layer, it delivers turnkey features, patch vulnerabilities, and drives security and stability for large Wi-Fi networks deployment. It also
provides WiFi professionals with an intuitive and responsive cloud-based software that makes deployment and configuration of multiple WiFi access point effortless.

From a financial point of view, the disaggregation of software and hardware allows for tremendous CAPEX, OPEX, and TCO reduction. TanazaOS is flexible and unlimitedly scalable and helps in delivering wireless networking services faster. Enterprises and service providers leverage TanazaOS to reduce hardware complexities and obtain complete interoperability, by freeing themselves from vendor lock-in. The result is that their hardware cost is minimized.

Q: Why is TanazaOS unique on the WiFi solution market?

A: TanazaOS discards the vertically-integrated model by encouraging the decoupling of hardware and software. In the networking market and particularly, in the wireless networking segment, no other company is currently trying to do this. Moreover, TanazaOS is the only real public cloud solution with a non-recurring fee available on the market. This allows TanazaOS to compete with other WiFi management solutions such as TP-Link, UniFi Cloud, Datto Networking or even Meraki to some extent, which offer a hybrid-cloud system or public cloud with expensive recurring-fee per wireless device.

Q: What are your plans for TanazaOS?

A: We aim to make TanazaOS the first Cloud-Based Operating System for consumer-grade and enterprise-grade WiFi Access points, offering a complete set of professional functionalities for WiFi networks management.

The next step is to add a complete hotspot system to the existing platform, and a set of flexible APIs that enable solution providers to offer additional high-value services, together with TanazaOS. We will also continue to expand our list of compatible devices to support even more hardware brands. We want to offer our clients the freedom to work with any access points while using the same operating system.

And last but not least, we are working on an innovative tool that allows our clients to deploy efficiently their TanazaOS networks. You will soon hear more about it, but the objective is to speed up the process of wireless device configuration and make it possible to empower access point with TanazaOS in just a few clicks.
