Below is our recent interview with Steve Hines, Co-Founder at ThreatAdvice:

Steve Hines

Q: Steve, tell us something more about ThreatAdvice?

A: ThreatAdvice is a cybersecurity education and awareness platform headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama. ThreatAdvice trains employees on a non-technical level as to how to have good cyber hygiene, and this of course helps the enterprise stay safe in terms of cyber breaches. Additionally, ThreatAdvice has an awareness component which includes regular phishing exercises, as well as a threat intelligence focused product called IntelliSense.

Q: You’ve recently been awarded a contract to provide cybersecurity education and awareness to State of Alabama employees; could you tell us something more?

A: There is no doubt that cyber criminals are finding fruitful opportunities with governments on both the local, state, and national levels, and the State of Alabama is very forward thinking when it comes to being cyber prepared and protected. Among the State’s many initiatives is state-wide employee cyber education, and after evaluating many possibilities, we were honored that they chose ThreatAdvice to be the cyber education provider for all State of Alabama employees.

Q: Tell us more about your newest feature – Employee Risk Levels.

A: Whether you are a Fortune 500 company, a city government, a church, a law firm, or any other enterprise, it is important to understand that the strength of your overall cybersecurity is only as strong as your weakest link ie. employee. One click by one person can literally bring any organization to its knees. Because of this, we have developed a very innovative product called Employee Risk Levels that gives employers a credit risk score for each and every employee, thereby letting the employer know who their biggest internal risks are and then being able to take appropriate corrective actions.

Q: What are the benefits of using your platform?

A: We take a different approach with employee cybersecurity education in that we provide short, concise, non-technical training modules that are able to be quickly ingested and understood by each and every employee. A basic understanding of general cybersecurity matters by every single employee is critical to the safety and soundness of every organization because the multiple costs of a cyber breach can be staggering. And, it only takes one wrong click by one person for the bad guys to be in the network.

Q: What are your plans moving forward?

A: We have had tremendous growth, both organically and through a number of acquisitions, and we intend to maintain that strong upward growth trajectory. There are tens of millions of enterprises that are totally unprepared when it comes to being in a good defensive posture in terms of avoiding cyber breaches, and employee education is the #1 way to help in this regard. We at ThreatAdvice want to do everything we can to help all organizations fight the never-ending cyber battle, and we want to be the #1 provider of employee cyber education in the United States.
