Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to your company?
A: TrueToForm is a female-founded tech startup that is changing the way clothing fits from the earliest stages of design. Our state-of-the-art scanning technology generates digital human avatars from a rotational scan on a smartphone, providing designers with direct access to the body shape and size of their customers. By replacing the in-person fitting with a scalable remote solution, we make made-to-measure apparel more efficient to produce and thus more accessible to the everyday consumer.
Q: Any highlights on your recent announcement?
A: We are thrilled to announce that Nigel Barker, renowned fashion photographer and TV personality from America’s Next Top Model, has joined our team as an advisor. We originally got connected with Nigel through a collaboration we did with Parsons School of Design and Special Olympics New York, where he served as a special guest critic to the students who used TrueToForm digital avatars to create adaptive athletic wear for U.S. Special Olympics athletes. It became clear that we shared a passion for bringing inclusivity and sustainability into the fashion industry, and that Nigel’s depth of industry expertise could add real value to our team. We cannot be more excited to work alongside Nigel to solve some of the biggest problems in fashion today.

Q: Can you give us more insights into your offering?
A: TrueToForm is a remote fitting tool that enables designers to access and manage all of their customer body data on one secure dashboard. Designers can use TrueToForm to request scans from their customers, manage avatars that have been shared to their account, and view measurements required for garment construction and fitting. TrueToForm avatars are also compatible with all 3D design software programs, including CLO3D and Browzwear, for virtual prototyping and design.
The scanning process is free and easy to do at home. Simply download the TrueToForm mobile app from the App Store and take a scan in order to generate your own personal 3D avatar. You can then choose to share your avatar with the designer of your choice.
TrueToForm is now in beta with made-to-measure brands like VARYFORM and The Tailory New York, leading athletic wear brands like Burton and Ridestore, and top fashion schools. You can learn more at www.truetoform.fit.
Q: What can we expect from your company in the next 6 months? What are your plans?
A: We will be building toward our vision of developing the most trusted avatar solution for apparel design and fitting. We will be pushing forward several key R&D projects to expand our product capabilities and support our beta customers. We are also actively fundraising.

Q: What is the best thing about your company that people might not know about?
A: Our company is founded by two sisters! Janice and Margaret Tam were inspired to build TrueToForm together after getting frustrated with their own personal shopping experience as two petite women who always struggled to find clothing that fit. Seeing how standard dress forms were not representative of many people’s bodies, including their own, they saw an opportunity to replace the standard dress form with a personal 3D avatar. Now, they are laser focused on making well fitting clothing accessible to everyone, regardless of body shape or size.
