Tuangru Enables Datacenters To Scale, Be Agile And Cut Costs

Listen to this article

Tuangru is a datacenter technologies marketplace and infrastructure management software company. Tuangru aims to enable datacenters to scale, be agile and cut costs to be successful in the new era of cloud, mobile, big data and social. Below is our interview with Rajan Sodhi, CMO, Tuangru.

Q: What’s Tuangru’s story? How did Tuangru start?

A: Tuangru, which is derived from the Mandarin word tuangou which means “group haggling”, started as a group buying service for datacenter technologies. We aggregated the demand of our small to midsize clients, predominantly hosting service providers, to earn higher volume discounts from our vendor partners, and pass those additional savings back to our clients. Myself and our CEO, Jad Jebara, came from Peer 1 Hosting and helped grow the company from a market cap of $35M to it $635M in 5 years (the price at which it was acquired by Cogeco Cable in 2013). During that time, we understood the significant costs in operating a datacenter and the lack of tools to significantly reduce costs and increase IT efficiencies.

Today, Tuangru is a datacenter technologies marketplace and infrastructure management software company that connects buyers and sellers of the latest IT hardware and software for a more informed, accessible and easy procurement experience. Our mission is to enable datacenters to scale, be agile and cut costs to be successful in the new era.

Q: What makes Tuangru a good choice?

A: The IT industry has entered the new era of cloud, mobile, big data and social. Millions of apps, billions of users and trillions of things demand a new kind of datacenter–one that must scale, be agile and proactively cut costs to survive. The Tuangru software platform combines a marketplace with datacenter infrastructure management (DCIM) to offer:

• One platform, one pane-of-glass
• Access to ODMs & new technologies
• Procure, sell & configure online
• Manage & monitor inside the datacenter
• Predictive analytics and KPIs
• Price advantage

Q: What new technologies are disrupting the datacenter industry right now?

A: New disruptive technologies:
1. Software-defined networks (SDN)
2. Open Network
3. Open Compute
4. All-SSD storage

Q: Could you explain the function and advantages of your datacenter infrastructure management (DCIM) platform?

A: On August 22nd, 2016 Tuangru acquired the assets of No Limits Software and their RAMP DCIM® suite to accelerate Tuangru’s transformation into a datacenter technologies marketplace and infrastructure management platform. It is the only DCIM that monitors everything in your datacenter. From servers, storage and virtual machines, to UPS and cooling–RAMP DCIM is a powerful datacenter and power management platform that delivers unparalleled visibility across every layer. It offers full IT asset management with feature-rich capabilities like Auto-Discovery that collects detailed device-specific data at the VM, IT and facility layers. All, for just $1/asset/month. Other features include:

• Agentless
• Real-Time Monitoring
• Visual Workflows
• Seamless Device Integration
• Auto-Change Management
• Power Management
• Capacity Planning
• Software & OS Management
• Intuitive UI

Q: What are your plans for the next year?

A: We have self-financed the company since inception, including the acquisition. We are now in a position to accelerate growth. As a result, we are underway raising our Series A round and expect to have that complete in the first quarter of 2017. We expect to double our headcount over the next 12 months, mostly in development. Our product roadmap includes integrating the marketplace and DCIM into a single, unified platform that auto-maps purchasing with deployment data for every single device in a client’s datacenter. We will also have three versions of DCIM available: Cloud/SaaS, On-Premise and SDK.
