Below is our recent interview with Batuhan Demirtaş, Product Marketing Manager at Twin Science & Robotics:
Q: What is Twin?
A: We are an edtech scale-up empowering the next generation of curious minds & creative thinkers to build a better future for everyone by offering hybrid education solutions. The company started within the scope of YGA’s World Science Movement, a social responsibility project that organized science workshops throughout Anatolia. Twin was incorporated in October 2017 and raised $4M seed-round investment to-date. We have been awarded the BETT Award 2020, the Play for Change Award, and the World Economic Forum’s Smart Toy AI Award. Our STEM partners include Rolls-Royce, Boeing, Ford, and many such cutting-edge tech companies, and our content development partners include UCL and Imperial College London. Today, we offer digital and hybrid subscriptions to children worldwide to introduce them to STEM+A concepts within an educational framework based on United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. We hope to create the largest K12 platform where all children develop their future skills and use them “4good”.
Q: Any highlights on your recent announcement?
A: We have partnered with Verofax, a blockchain-powered ‘Traceability as a Service’ solution company, under the consultancy of Prof Ger Graus OBE to sponsor Like2Be’s Antony Jinman’s polar expedition, which we then broadcasted as bite-sized interactive videos in the Twin app for children to follow the expedition in real-time. This has inspired children to not just learn about but also be encouraged to take action on climate change.
Q: Can you give us more insights into your offering?
A: This project has allowed children to discuss what they learned from Jinman and what they are inspired to do in the discussion forums with their peers, play climate change trivia with each other to increase their knowledge on the issue, complete DIY projects about climate change and share it on the app, and interact with a polar explorer to learn about the effects of climate change in the polar region. This is just a summary of what the project entails – but overall, our aim is to inspire children to take climate action in accordance with UN SDG 13. We urge all interested parties to visit our website to find out more about the project!
Q: What can we expect from your company in next 6 months? What are your plans?
A: Up until today, we have established a content production system and produced in-house edutainment content. Today, this system allows leading experts in their fields, science communicators, and educators to convey their knowledge to children. We are looking forward to meeting like-minded individuals to create sustainable impact.
Q: What is the best thing about your company that people might not know about?
A: Our philosophy has its roots in our NGO days, when we as the co-founders would visit students in economically disadvantaged schools to hold science workshops with them. Back then, our aim was to help raise double-winged youth, with one wing connoting know-how and the other conscientious thinking. We would remind them of the greatest minds of the century who went on to create terrible inventions, like the atomic bomb, and inspire them to never forget empathetical thinking when unleashing the great potential that was their minds. A lot of things have changed, but this has always remained at the core of what we do: A strong belief that only with two wings can children; regardless of their economic background, gender, race, or nationality; fly.Activate Social Media:
