Twos PALs is an AI-powered feature that analyzes what users write and provides contextual actions like reminders, event creation, and product links without cluttering the interface. Built by Parker Klein and Joe Steilberg, Twos emphasizes simplicity, speed, and privacy. The app supports seamless organization while allowing users full control over their information.
The All-in-One Note-Taking App You Probably Haven’t Tried Yet
Twos is a free productivity app designed to bring together notes, to-dos, reminders, lists, events, and journaling into one platform. The app introduces a unique concept called “things”—individual pieces of information that can be added quickly, organized intuitively, and shared as needed. Unlike traditional notes, things are made to be actionable and adaptable, allowing users to interact with their information rather than simply store it.
Created by Parker Klein and Joe Steilberg, Twos was originally built from a personal need for mental clarity and simplicity. Klein developed the first version of Twos while in college, after finding existing writing systems too slow and fragmented. Over time, what began as a private journaling tool evolved into a multifunctional system. In 2020, the founders came together to take Twos to the next level, incorporating smarter, shareable workflows.
Twos is available across platforms, and users can access their content on the web or through downloadable apps. It supports various languages and emphasizes user control, minimalism, and thoughtful features rather than bloat.
What on Earth Are Twos PALs and Why Should You Care?
Twos PALs, short for Personal Active Lists, are AI-powered tools built into the platform that analyze what users write and generate meaningful, time-saving outcomes. Unlike generic AI integrations that flood the interface with automated content, PALs operate with purpose and precision.
The feature works behind the scenes to scan input, identify intent, and act only when relevant. This includes recognizing task-oriented text, dates, and content categories. PALs can set reminders, create events, retrieve product links, and suggest actions based on what’s written. If no match is found, no suggestion is made, maintaining a clean interface.
PALs enhance the functionality of things by turning them into smart, categorized content. They are designed to be useful without adding friction to the user experience.
You Write It, PALs Gets It
PALs perform three key actions:
- Analyze – Understand the written content, scanning for patterns or cues.
- Categorize – Automatically classify entries into relevant types such as reminders, events, phone numbers, contacts, products, or locations.
- Suggest – Provide relevant additions like shopping links, streaming sources, or contact prompts.
The system handles over 30 use cases. Products receive shopping links, phone numbers are prepared for saving, and locations are mapped. Movies and music are linked to their platforms. If the AI doesn’t detect a relevant enhancement, it remains inactive, avoiding unnecessary prompts or interruptions.
This interaction model allows users to write naturally while benefiting from contextual suggestions when appropriate.
From College Struggles to App Success: The Story Behind Twos
Parker Klein first conceptualized Twos in 2015 during his time at Vanderbilt University. Struggling with depression, he began documenting his thoughts in a Google Doc. While writing provided relief, the disjointed nature of traditional note-taking tools led to frustration and limited engagement.
Motivated to build something faster and more structured, Klein taught himself programming and released the first version of Twos during his senior year. He continued refining it while working at companies like Qualcomm, Trustwork, and Google.
Joe Steilberg joined the project in 2020, bringing a new perspective centered on shareable content. After collaborating at Trustwork, Steilberg approached Klein with an app idea focused on announcements. Their visions aligned, and they relaunched Twos together.
By 2021, the two had relocated to Tampa, Florida, working full-time from what became the Twos HQ. In 2023, they reintroduced Twos World to support community-driven sharing.
Twos remains bootstrapped, with income coming from optional subscriptions, in-app purchases, and affiliate revenue. Support from TampaBay.Ventures and personal networks has enabled sustainable growth.

What Makes Twos PALs Different From Other AI Tools
Twos PALs do not crowd the user experience with forced automation. Their AI enhancements are integrated with restraint, only suggesting actions when contextually appropriate. The goal is to streamline organization without requiring users to change how they write.
User privacy is emphasized across all features. All data is encrypted both at rest and in transit using AES256-CBC. Content is stored on secure servers, and Twos never accesses data unless explicitly requested by the user.
PALs operate without pushing recommendations or requiring manual tagging. Users are not forced into predefined structures or routines. If no intelligent action can be taken from a piece of input, PALs remain silent.
Unlike other AI-enhanced platforms, Twos does not monetize data or use it for advertising purposes. It offers export options including TXT, MD, PDF, and print formats, ensuring users maintain full control over their information.
Twos World Is Coming, and It Might Change the Way You Share Information
Twos World expands the platform’s functionality by allowing users to connect over shared information. Users will eventually be able to sell curated lists and things to others in a peer-to-peer format. Twos will take a commission from transactions, creating a self-sustaining information marketplace.
The team is also developing two additional features:
- Chat with Twos – A conversational interface that enables users to interact with their notes via natural language.
- Self-Organization – Automated structuring of content to reduce manual sorting and tagging.
These additions are intended to enhance productivity while maintaining Twos’ core values: simplicity, speed, and privacy.
Why Twos PALs Might Be the Only Productivity Assistant You Actually Use
Twos PALs are built to support everyday productivity without introducing complexity. Users can quickly write down tasks, events, and ideas, while PALs silently enhance the content with smart actions and suggestions.
There are no excessive onboarding steps or enforced workflows. The AI understands content naturally and acts only when the output adds real value.
With features that prioritize user autonomy, transparent privacy policies, and a growing set of tools like Chat and Twos World, the app positions itself as a simple but capable platform for digital organization. The vision set by co-founders Parker Klein and Joe Steilberg continues to shape Twos into a workspace where writing, remembering, and sharing information happens without friction.
