Updatey – Keep Your Clients Up To Date With Project Progress

Listen to this article

Updatey helps you submit project updates and visualize them in a way your clients, investors or anybody can understand. Interview below is with Benjamin Dell Founder and CEO of UK based startup Updatey.

Q: Could you tell us your story and something more about Updatey?
Updatey was born from the idea that keeping people up to date on the status of a project was just too difficult to achieve through the traditional Project Management tools. We felt that the traditional tools (such as Basecamp, Teambox etc) were great at dealing with the day to day ‘noise’ that you typically find within projects, but not so good at conveying key strategic aims, milestones and deadlines. Based on these insights, and instinct for a better solution, we got to work on building Updatey.

Q: How long did it take you to get a final product?
A: We started building in April 2013 and released the first beta version in October of the same year. We stayed in Beta mode for just a few months – in January 2014 we moved into revenue mode. We’re now busy working on version 2 :).

Q: Do you have some new features in the pipeline?
A: Yes absolutely. Since launching we have been listening intently to our customers and have picked up on a number of areas we could improve on. On the one side, we’re seeing a number of customers signup for Updatey but later on leave due to the natural difficulties you often find when trying to bring your wider team (and clients) over to a new system. On the other hand, we have a section of customers that want Updatey to do a lot more than convey the status of their projects in a beautiful and engaging way – in short, they want Updatey to be a full blown project management tool. These are two clear but large challenges – but two challenges we are tackling head on! We’ve wrapped these into a new set of features that will be packaged up as version 2. We’re due to release this new version in the next 2-4 weeks.

Q: What is your main goal at the moment?
A: Right now, we’re focused on ‘pivoting’ the product until we feel we’re meeting our customers needs as effectively and meaningfully as we should be. Version 2 goes a long way to achieving this, though we expect to pivot perhaps a couple more times after this.
