Listen to this article

VoIP Innovations provides the largest phone number and termination VoIP (Voice over IP) footprint in North America. The company’s network includes hundreds of thousands of phone numbers in over 8,500 rate centers across the US and Canada, and in over 60 countries around the world. Below is our interview with David Walsh, President at VoIP Innovations:

Q: You’ve recently announced acquisition of Apidaze; could you tell us something more?

A: We are excited to announce our recent acquisition of Apidaze which is based out of Paris, France and is a leading global CPaaS and WebRTC provider.

With the addition of Apidaze technology, all VoIP Innovations services are now programmable, meaning you can now program how, when and where your phone numbers work. Some good examples of this are….
· SMS Appointment Reminders
· Two Factor Authentication
· Click To Call
· Voice Transcription

In terms of uses, it all really depends on what the developers can dream up. If you need your phone number to work with an application, you can program our network to do that and more by adding voice, messaging, fax, and video into your apps, services, or business processes.

We are also looking forward to unveiling our Showroom. This is an ever-expanding and curated portfolio of pre-built application tools that you can simply add into your offering and into your business process.

This acquisition will launch us into the emerging Communications Platform as a Service (CPaaS) industry. It also allows us to offer value-added capabilities and flexibility to program voice, messaging, and video into your current offering to start generating additional revenue.

This will enable our customers to leverage Voice, Rest APIs, WebRTC SDK and programmable SMS features to empower their customers to embed our network into their own communications apps which fits into their specific business requirements.

Q: Who is your ideal customer and why?

A: We have a fantastic base of customers who have relied on VoIP Innovations for over 10 years to provide network reliability. Our ideal customers and market segments are digital businesses and enterprises who have intensive and critical communication requirements.

Here are a few of our different verticals:

Digital Businesses — These are businesses interested in building web and mobile-based digital businesses. The solutions may be entirely SaaS-based (Software as a Service) or they may be a digital business operation within a traditional business. This group is particularly interested in rapid, agile development, low startup costs, and flexible scaling. For instance, a startup company may wish to include SMS and anonymized calling in its service. They would also want low startup costs and the ability to rapidly scale when the business succeeds.

Enterprise Business Solution Developers — These integrate mobility, communication and collaboration functionality with business applications, often to enable new functionality and services. The business solutions being integrated may be cloud-based or on-premises. This group develops cost-effective proofs of concept, the ability to integrate with business applications, and subsequent enterprise-grade service delivery. Adding SMS notifications to existing fulfilment processes is a common use case.

Customer Interaction Solution Developers — These expand existing service offerings or develop new offerings that incorporate additional media channels and new client platforms at a reasonable cost. These solutions may be standalone or integrated with existing on-premises or cloud resources. This group is often focused on compatibility, the ability to handle high volumes of transactions and is focused on customer interaction. These solutions may be related to a digital business initiative or an enterprise business function. A company who wishes to add text messaging to and from social sites such as Facebook as an option for interacting with consumers, is an example of this vertical.

Q: What is unique about VoIP Innovations and how does it stand out from competition?

A: To date, the market has not seen a wholesale VoIP provider introduce this kind of capability. We are the first wholesale provider to offer white label programmable network APIs and WebRTC.

Our programmable services, combined with our award-winning wholesale network and automated telephone number orchestration platform give us the ability to provide an alternative choice to companies such as Twillio and Nexmo.

A unique offer that we provide to our customers is transparency as to which network they can leverage to fit their unique needs. No other carrier provides this transparency.

Unlike Twilio, our customers have the ability to pick the underlying carrier network with which they feel most comfortable. We can provide this at a price point that is much more attractive so they can retain their margins.

For example, most developers start on Twilio for proof of concept. Companies are now relying more and more on bridging network events, such as messaging, into their applications. A good example of this is Uber, which is Twilio’s largest customer. Companies like Uber began to feel the pain of high telco costs from the amount of telco usage their apps were consuming. When their applications scale, their telco costs become a major cost component to their business. We can provide lower prices as well as carrier choice while still offering the same capability to enable companies like Uber to remain competitive.

Q: What are your plans for next six months?

A: We are extremely excited about the next six months. The market has not had the opportunity to see a wholesale VoIP provider come out with this kind of capability. Large system integrators and enterprises such as Uber, Airbnb and Zendesk have not had a choice in terms of network usage other than paying high retail pricing for messaging and voice.

We believe that there has not been a real contender to Twilio so far. We are excited to get out there and provide a true value-based alternative with the same capabilities.
