Incorporated in 2008, VUEMED is a healthcare IT company dedicated to the transformation of the healthcare supply chain from the point of receipt to the point of care. To achieve this, they use a flexible and scalable SaaS model and innovative RFID- and Cloud-based technologies. Below is our recent interview with Arnold Chazal, CEO of VUEMED:

Malik Akande

Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to VUEMED?

A: Our mission is focused on solving acute inventory management, supply chain, and product usage documentation problems at hospitals with solutions that provide comprehensive and accurate data to guide change, achieve efficiency and savings, increase revenue capture, and improve the quality and delivery of care.

Q: You’ve recently been selected as one of the Top 10 Healthcare Supply Chain Management Solution Providers of 2017. Could you tell us something more?

A: Our RAIN (GS1 UHF Gen2) RFID technology provides extremely accurate, real-time visibility and traceability of medical products and supplies throughout the supply chain, from the moment the product is labeled with a passive RFID tag at the manufacturer site, all the way through the supply chain to the hospital and to the patient at the point of care.

For a hospital, our solutions bridge the gap between materials management and clinical areas in order to get the most accurate and timely communication of data on a product’s availability, location, and pedigree information (lot or serial number and expiration date). Our technology provides the hospital with a suite of powerful tools that collect, generate, and analyze critical data in a way that is meaningful and easily actionable. With such powerful information at their fingertips, users can optimize their inventories and reduce purchases to sensible levels aligned with actual needs, as well as ensure proper risk management in controlling expirations, handling recalls, and ensuring the highest accuracy of patient records. And for manufacturers, the advantage of our technology is to gain unprecedented visibility of their products from inside their own supply chain all the way inside the hospital to the point of care.

Q: What makes your solutions unique?

A: Our RAIN RFID technology is unique and innovative for many reasons. First, it is hands-free and cabinet-free, and turns any space – whether a supply room, procedure room, or warehouse – into a fully controlled and automated inventory space using existing shelving with real-time information about each product’s location, availability, usage, and expiration information.

Another unique aspect of VUEMED is our massive Cloud-based, UDI-compliant database of clinical products that works seamlessly with all of VUEMED’s SaaS technologies to ensure the accuracy of the data capture and reporting for a wide variety of clinical and inventory related transactions, exact product identification and documentation, and consistent data feeds to other hospital systems such as EMR, clinical documentation systems, billing, and materials management systems.

The foundational technology in VUEMED’s ecosystem of RAIN RFID solutions is VueTrack-RF. What sets VueTrack-RF apart from other RFID solutions on the market is its ability to capture data using antennas in open spaces rather than being restricted to a cabinet or shelf, and therefore monitor product movements and locations throughout the hospital. Additionally, with our solutions the inventory is tracked at an individual item-level in the Cloud and includes information about recall and expiration status, utilization details at the point of care and by physician, and the movement and location of supplies throughout the organization.

VueTrack-Mobile leverages VueTrack-RF’s capabilities on-the-go with a hand-held RFID device using VUEMED’s application. It’s ideal for conducting cycle counts, performing audits, or controlling consigned inventory. And VueTrack-UDI is an immediate complement to VueTrack-RF and VueTrack-Mobile, as it produces RFID tags that are compliant with the Unique Device Identification (UDI) requirements of the FDA which brings significant benefits both to manufacturers and hospitals.

Q: What can we expect from VUEMED in the future?

A: As evidenced by our newest sterile processing to point-of-care technologies, VueSurg and VueTray, and our automated RFID-powered Kanban system, VueBin, VUEMED is constantly striving to develop the inventory management and clinical documentation solutions of the future. Our goal will remain to enable providers to improve patient safety and quality of care delivery, maximize staff productivity and process efficiency, save money, and ensure accurate charge capture while mitigating risk.
