Below is our interview with Nick Jones, CEO and Founder of JRNL:
Q: Nick, what’s JRNL’s story? How did JRNL start?
A: I believe journal writing has great value for individuals and their families, but most people fail to recognize that value until years have passed and memories are lost. JRNL became a driving force in my life when I got married and became a Dad. My view of the world changed. I became a lot less selfish. I found myself thinking a lot more about mortality and those that I love. My family inspired me to find a better way to share my legacy, but I realized the problem I was trying to solve was far greater than me and needed a real solution.
Q: What are your key features? Tell us something more about your application?
A: JRNL is designed to make journal writing easier and we achieve this with our Web application, email-to-journal functionality, a mobile app and personalized prompts that make getting started possible. The payoff is a beautiful, full-color archival quality book. Our users love their JRNL books and tell us that they feel a great sense of accomplishment each time they hold their book in their hands. We’re working hard on v2.0 and feel that many of the integration points we’re including will set us apart in the market.

Q: What makes JRNL a good choice?
A: JRNL is FREE and our team is committed to building the best journal that will actually help users achieve their goals of keeping a personal record. We have a great team that is driven to help users effectively capture their personal stories. We know the work being done is going to positively impact future generations and that’s inspiring for all of us.

Q: You’ve been chosen to participate in the 12-week BoomStartup’s Accelerator program; tell us something more?
A: JRNL has had great interest so far in 2016 and we’re working on closing out our Seed Round of $650K in May. We’re anticipating a strong A round in 2017 and our team is excited about the developments coming down the pipeline. We were fortunate to be selected to participate in BoomStartup and the connections we’ve made have been extremely valuable and rewarding. The interest has not only been confirmation of our vision, but the feedback and mentoring has made our company stronger. That’s all you can ask from an accelerator, and it’s no wonder BoomStartup has received the accolades they’ve enjoyed.

Q: What are your plans?
A: JRNL is a true journaling platform. There are so many ways we will be able to extend the service and we are excited to get feedback from users and engage with partners in different verticals. We expect to launch JRNL 2.0 later in 2016 and will look to greatly improve publishing and extend our content collection tools. Ultimately, our goals are to make journal writing easier for all users and help them realize the value of capturing meaningful moments in their life.
