Q: Tell us something more about Dragonfly and your history?

A: Dragonfly are an Australian based cyber security consulting firm founded in 2005 which has become a trusted name cyber security within Australia. Today, along with our professional services, we are building new capabilities around cyber security research and development, threat intelligence and the formation of global partnerships and alliances to help tackle cybercrime.

We are constantly looking for ways to innovate in the security space to assist our customers remain on top of the constant threat of cyber attacks through new service deliveries and alliances which deliver our customers leading experts in this fast moving field. Our initiatives include global alliances to bring international expertise to our current customer base, PCI DSS services which are cost effective and easy to access and Application Security as a Service offering to bridge the gap between costly enterprise solutions and on demand services.

Q: What advantage does Dragonfly have over its competitors?

A: Our one major advantage is our ability to be agile and adopt to the changing threat landscape through partnerships with world recognised leaders in the field and being able to bring this competitive advantage to our customers. As globalisation continues to infiltrate all aspects of our world, it is particularly true of the cyber security world. This means that our response as an organisation must be multifaceted.

What drives our success is our ability to bridge the gap between our customers business needs and the security findings our team uncover. We find that too often, security deliverables are not aligned with business outcomes and are not actionable to assist organisations to continue on the journey of improving their security posture once the engagement is over. We work on the premise that our customers genuinely want to improve their security over time and ensure our outputs support that journey. Too often we see security companies providing a tick the box report which can only provide a moment in time snapshot rather than a true business blueprint to assist them in constant improvement. We also support their journey with affordable, easy to access tools they can use as they need them.

Q: You’ve recently announced partnership with Singapore based NSHC, tell us something more?

A: Our newly formed partnership with HSHC really strengthens our core capabilities through the collaboration and engagement with a team of expert cyber security professionals within the Asia Pacific region. The partnership helps us supplement our international security intelligence and pass this benefit on to our customer with greater expertise at their fingertips.

Our cyber partnerships allows us to build a cyber security practice that is truly focused on the Australian and Asian markets and at the same time demonstrate to the rest of the world that Australia can truly be a global partner in the fight against cyber crime.

Our alignment with NSHC means that we can provide a wider range of cyber security services particularly in the areas of Threat Intelligence, Training and Cyber Security Research that we can pass onto our customers.

Q: What were the main challenges you faced in developing the company?

A: Dragonfly has just turned 10 and each year over the past decade has been a learning and a rewarding experience for all involved given the fast pace of change we are seeing in this space.

Over the years, my focus has been building a culture around our core values that resonate with our customers and has resulted in the strong customer relationships that have been formed.

The challenges of balancing the business requirements of our customers and the changing threat landscape is always a difficult one but is a critical component to our success. The question “have we met our customer’s business AND security needs effectively” is what keeps me up at night. That question drives me to continually challenge myself in how can we do security better? How can we be the best at what we do?

The answers to these questions I have found focuses on paying attention to what the findings mean to a company and their practices and drawing from that real world actionable goals which can be acted on today. This of course couldn’t be achieved without a great team of energetic and dedicated professionals who inherently understand this link and think about this in every action they do.

Q: What are your plans for the future?

A: There is still a great deal of awareness within organisation around information security that needs occur and this can only occur when the conversation regarding security occurs at every step of the business cycle and not as an afterthought. These security conversations need to occur at board level and C-suite level down for us to truly move the needle in the right direction and have truly security conscious organisations. I am a firm believer that in time, an organisation which is truly security conscious will have a competitive advantage over their competitors as businesses and consumers continue to develop their awareness around the value of their data and start to place greater importance on how organisations they interact with and protect this increasingly valuable commodity. Many enterprise organisation do information security well however I see many large organisations, and the SME market overall, generally unaware of the impact a security compromise can have on their organisations.

At Dragonfly, we will continue to build alliances and to innovate around people, process and technology and we will continue to train and invest in a dynamic and expert team of cyber professionals both locally and across the globe to assist our customers in becoming more security conscious and protect their organisations from the ongoing threat of compromise.

In terms of further initiatives, Dragonfly has initiated an alliance with Indusface to build a global offering around PCI DSS with drivePCI.com. Organisations can visit drivePCI.com and purchase access to scanning tools which assist them in achieving PCI compliance and access help from experts in the field with their PCI compliance processes.

In addition, we are doubling down on our efforts in the Application Security space and have recently entered into an agreement with IBM to deliver cloud Application Security as a Service. This will allow us to further grow our Application Security business while providing a more affordable option for our customers to access enterprise security software as needed.

Over the next 12 months and well into the future, I hope to continue our conversations and awareness campaigns around information security, to help our customers be proactive, resilient and be prepared to detect and respond to cyber attacks and in the end to understand the commercial risks that a security compromise can have on an organisation and what to do about it.
