Labor Technology Platform WorkWhile Matches Workers To Shifts That Fit Their Skills, Schedule, And Location

Listen to this article

WorkWhile is a workforce-as-a-service labor technology platform that matches workers to shifts that fit their skills, schedule, and location. It uses cognitive science, behavioral analysis, and peer feedback to help identify the most reliable hourly workers and support them with perks not available at traditional hourly wage jobs. Employers use WorkWhile for a high-quality, reliable workforce they can scale up or down.

Below is our recent interview with Jarah Euston, Co-founder & CEO of WorkWhile:

Q: How can your platform help unemployed people?

A: We help hourly workers find shifts that fit their skills and schedules. Given the pandemic, `many hourly workers are facing unemployment. WorkWhile can help them schedule shifts across more than one business on the same platform. In this way, they can be sure that their schedule will meet the needs their life demands. We know that it’s very rare for hourly workers to get their schedules more than a week in advance. With WorkWhile, workers can be sure that they can plan ahead for things like child care, doctor appointments, and other demands. At a typically hourly job, asking to reschedule a shift can lead to getting written up and eventually fired. We want to create a new way for workers to have a stable, yet flexible schedule.

Another benefit of working on the platform is getting paid the next day. Especially in these tough times, accessing your earned wages is a huge help. With WorkWhile, workers can transfer earnings to their debit card 24 hours after clocking out.

Q: Where is your platform available at the moment?

A: We’re currently available in California and Texas, with more locations coming this year.

Q: You’ve recently raised $3,500,000 in Seed funding; can you tell us something more?

A: We believe a huge shift in the hourly labor market is happening now, accelerated by the pandemic. The one-to-one employee / employer relationship is much too brittle to handle the flexibility that is needed on both sides. We see a real opportunity to change the way businesses approach hourly staffing. We call this new approach workforce-as-a service. It allows businesses to scale up or down their labor force, while providing stability to workers.

With this seed round, WorkWhile will be able to grow the team and invest in providing more benefits to workers, such as free or low-cost telehealth access. We’re investing in tools that make working and saving a delightful experience for the best workers. An important part of our model is ensuring that we have the most reliable workers on our platform. Providing these perks is an essential strategy to retain and support them.

Q: What can we expect from WorkWhile in next six months?

A: In the next six months, WorkWhile will be expanding into more locations throughout the US and expanding the types of jobs we have on the platform. And of course, adding more perks and benefits to make WorkWhile the best place for the best workers.
