Where Are They Now? 4 Former Pop Culture Icons, And What They’re Doing Now

Listen to this article

Not all celebrities are going to be the Chris Evans, Oprah Winfreys, Tom Hanks, or Taylor Swifts of the world. Some celebrities are at the top of their game and stay in the spotlight for their entire lives, while others have a moment of fame and quickly fade from the public eye. But there are a few who have enduring fame of a different kind.

While they may not be the newest act on the block or known by Gen Zers, pop culture icons from the ’90s got their fair share of fame back in the day. While some have gone on to lead more normal lives out of the limelight, others have shown that their careers will stand the test of time.

Many of your favorite pop culture icons from the ‘90s are still working today. While they may not be headlining movies in Hollywood anymore, you’ll still be able to find them making a living using their celebrity to their advantage.

Here are four former pop culture icons, and what they’re up to today.

1. Carrot Top (Scott Thompson)

Carrot Top got his professional name from his thick curly red hair, which he wears in a large almost afro, making him immediately recognizable and almost unforgettable. A standup comic and actor, Carrot Top is still working today, and often plays in Las Vegas shows, using a lot of props and gimmicks as a part of the routine.

Of course, he’s also been active as a guest of TV shows and reality contests, where his iconic appearance gets him instant recognition if not longer lasting parts.

Unlike a lot of D-Listers, Carrot Top has never had to leave the industry that originally made him famous, and is still enjoying a good reputation as a top comedian, and a consummate performer with no signs of quitting any time soon.

2. Rosie O’Donnell

Rosie O’Donnell is another actress and comedian, known for her larger-than-life personality as much as her iconic roles. She’s been both an actress and a TV personality and has sometimes seemed like one of those actors with a ton of potential… if only the industry could find the right role or the right job to suit her impressive skills.

Perhaps more important than her continued work as a comedian and actress, Rosie is still very much active to this day, she’s also become known for being a philanthropist. O’Donnell’s All For Kids Foundation provides funding and awards to childcare facilities and non-profits, providing millions of dollars in grants since its founding. The foundation was also involved in helping families displaced after Hurricane Katrina.

She has also been involved in programs funding music and dance education for kids and raising money for the Human Rights Campaign and other LGBTQ initiatives.

These days Rosie is a full-time actress, but we’re sure her philanthropic work is continuing at the same time.

3. Carmen Electra

Carmen Electra is a celebrity whose looks won her more than a few roles, and she’s never been afraid of the fact. Where some actresses might have been nervous about being known for their incredible good looks, Carmen has always embraced it, from Baywatch to her appearances in Playboy Magazine.

In Hollywood though, there is always some risk that, after reaching a certain age, actresses will fall out of the limelight and struggle to maintain their reputation and keep getting roles.

Carmen Electra has experienced some of that, but that hasn’t kept her from staying busy and becoming a spokeswoman fighting back against the perception of aging as bad, or even as unattractive. She works to show that confidence, beauty, and even sexiness don’t have to do away as you age and that no age should be a barrier to being, and working, the way you want to.

Her recent portfolio goes even a little further, endorsing Nu Image Medical’s Screamer Gel Max personal lubricant as an effective, and very fun, way to keep things interesting in the bedroom. The gel works by increasing feminine sensitivity, and, as Carmen points out, is one of the best ways to overcome low libido or lack of sexual desire after menopause.

Originally known for looking, feeling, and acting sexy, Carmen is the perfect spokesperson for this kind of product, and it’s very in line with her work as an advocate for continued feminine beauty and sexuality despite aging.

4. Ric Flair

Ric Flair is another celebrity that has turned to endorsements as a way both of keeping his career going, and of helping other people overcome everyday problems that might seem too embarrassing to deal with publicly.

With the strength and grit he first developed as a professional wrestler, Flair has become another celebrity working to demystify and destigmatize some of the natural consequences of aging.

It makes sense. Once known as one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, and impressively getting back in the wrestling ring just three months after a plane crash and injuries, Flair knows how important hard work is. He also knows that sometimes you need medical intervention to get the help you need and get your body back to working as it should.

That’s one of the reasons that, in addition to his other work, Ric Flair has endorsed Nu Image Medical’s Mt. Everest program for overcoming erectile dysfunction. He’s a firm believer that men shouldn’t have to be embarrassed or held back by this condition, and that restoring hormone balance, energy, and sexual performance is possible.
