Q: Jeff, how would you describe Spenco Medical Corporation?
A: Spenco is a leading producer of premium insoles, footwear and foot care products. Based in Waco, Texas, Spenco insoles use advanced materials and the latest technologies to help increase performance and stability while offering lasting comfort and relief from foot pain. Spenco provides the most advanced sports medicine and first aid products available. The company has earned a strong following in the outdoor, sports, foot care and medical markets in the decades since its founding. The company’s products sell in more than 84 countries around the world. Its motto is Love Your Feet.TM
Q: Tell us something more about Spenco’s history?
A: In 1967, renowned foot care specialist Dr. Wayman Spence founded Spenco. A lifelong inventor and fitness fanatic, Spence dedicated his life to helping foster healthy habits in others. He gained some notoriety in the 1960s and 1970s as an innovative anti-tobacco campaigner. Spence was also considered a pioneer in podiatry and sports medicine.
Always an athlete, Spence did not become an avid runner until the age of 45. He was known to run 35 to 70 miles a week. He recognized the importance of foot health in his fellow runners, but also in his patients with arthritis and diabetes. Eventually, Spence moved forward with his foot health inventions, and he is credited with creating the first silicone gels for preventing ulcers.

Q: How does Spenco differ from its competition?

Q: You’ve recently introduced memory foam to your performance footwear; tell us something more.
A: Conventional memory foam has always felt soft and comfortable, but it lacked the ability to be shaped into orthotic-grade contours — until now. New for spring 2016, Spenco launched a line of structured memory foam sandals and slides. The footwear offers the initial softness of memory foam with the added benefit of structural integrity, like taking a high-quality mattress and adding a pillow top.
In Spenco’s rapidly expanding footwear line, the styles that come with memory foam in the new spring line are the Pure Sandal for menand women, and the Thrust Slide for men. They come in several color options, including violet, navy, black and yellow. Technical four-way stretch nylon encapsulates the substantial layer of memory foam that sits atop the Total Support® footbed found in all Spenco footwear. The low-friction fabric helps reduce shear that can cause hot spots and blisters. Silpure Antimicrobial agent inhibits the growth of bacteria that can cause odor.

Q: What are your plans?
A: Our plans are to grow! We’re expanding every year. This year, Spenco Medical Corporation acquired its Canadian distributor, Spenco Canada. Spenco products are also selling in China, where we recently celebrated our first year with an exclusive distributor in one of the fastest-growing consumer goods nations.
