Q: Steven, tell us something more about Zenti and your core competence?
A: Zenti provides accessible machine learning to companies in a way that is affordable, scalable and that supports subject matter experts finding the data they want, without requiring an engineering degree.
Q: You’ve recently announced alliance with National Veterans Foundation; tell us something more?
A: National Veterans Foundation (NVF) has a long history and great expertise at working with veterans successfully to reduce suicide. Zenti is helping the NVF’s limited resources find the veterans who are most at risk. As a next step we will be expanding our scope to help organizations who are seeking to target deviant behavior and counter violent extremism by identifying intent, emotion and sentiment. Using our language independent technology, our system will be used to process obscure dialects where individuals are typing on hand held devices. As per our work with suicide prevention, the goal is to enable large scale identification and intervention.

Q: Can you give us more insights into your natural language processing software?
A: Zenti captures human pattern recognition by having a non-technical subject matter expert make a simple binary decision. Each such decision becomes a “training event” for a particular classifier. These “training events” accumulated capture the human pattern recognition for recognizing the target data. Finally, Zenti’s scalable platform amplifies that pattern recognition so that enormous amounts of text can be classified (and ranked based on a score). By taking an approach that leverage statistical methods to analyzing and understanding text data, we remove the need for developing and maintaining complex ontologies or enormous Boolean expressions.

Q: What’s the best thing about Zenti that people might not know about?
A: The words ‘machine learning’ and ‘big data analytics’ typically conjure up thoughts of massive expense and having to deal with teams of data scientists and language experts. In contrast to Zenti actually makes machine learning and big data analytics fun and easy.
Q: What are your plans for next six months?
A: Zenti will continue to grow our partnerships related to suicide prevention and will be publishing a number of papers for peer reviewed journals that will be co-authored by leading clinical and research psychologists, who have validated the technology. We will also begin a program of commercialization efforts in the US, Europe and Asia, where we will make Zenti’s technology available to licensed by companies who need the ability to process large volumes of unstructured text data, quickly and easily.
