Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to IEEE ISTO?

A: In the 1980s, the IEEE Standards Association (SA) witnessed the sudden emergence of industry consortia and trade groups developing standardized technology solutions. In an effort to support these and other technical trade groups, the IEEE SA elected to broaden its standards models and support the formation of a new, legally independent Not-For-Profit (NFP) called IEEE Industry Standards and Technology Organization or ISTO.

In 1999, the ISTO was incorporated and was set up as a federation of largely independent alliances, consortia, trade groups and SIGs that develop and/or promote standardized technology solutions that benefit industry and grow technology ecosystems. Early members of ISTO included the Voice XML Forum, the Printer Working Group (PWG), and the Medical Device Communications Industry Group.

The ISTO has a global mission to facilitate the life cycle of industry standards development through a staff committed to neutrality, quality, and member satisfaction.

Q: Who is your ideal customer and why?
