Digital Transformation Platform LeanIX Helps Companies Evolve With Microservices Adoption

Listen to this article

LeanIX is the IT and Enterprise Architecture solution made for every company that wants to have a transparent overview of its IT landscape and actively use its IT to promote the business. Companies that have previously managed their IT using Excel and Visio and are now going to take the next step, or companies that already use a tool and are looking for a pragmatic, user-friendly alternative. Many of LeanIX’s customers are open to new technologies and want to develop themselves and their IT by working with the company. Adidas, Axel Springer, Merck and DHL, as well as Haworth and Flagstar Bank, come from a wide variety of industries and LeanIX is helping them transform their company’s IT, introduce microservices, clarify which data is used by which applications in the organization and comply with regulations and standards. Below is our interview with André Christ, the Founder and Co-CEO at LeanIX:

Q: What is unique about LeanIX 4.0 “Pathfinder” and how does it stand out from competition?

A: Our new version 4.0 release “Pathfinder” is based on graph technologies created by Facebook. That means the usability for processing of larger amounts of data is easier and a high degree of customization, even of the data model, is possible. Developers will find it easy to integrate into existing IT landscapes thanks to the strongly typed API. Pathfinder supports the transformation of IT, for example adoption of microservices by enabling the planning and design as well at the automation of their documentation. Pathfinder makes it easy to migrate, for example to new versions of SAP, with roadmap reports that visualize the relations between projects, application and technical components. Heatmaps that show the IT landscape at different points in time help to track the adoption status. Pathfinder ensures that full transparency on all data flows from and to different modules is available at all times. Meanwhile, Pathfinder also keeps track of outdated technology and helps organizations understand the ripple effect obsolete technology can have in the IT landscape. By automatically tracking technology lifecycles, clients can not only save millions by avoiding costly IT incidents but also have information always available for regulatory demands.

Q: Could you tell us something more about your pricing plans?

A: We believe that the information in LeanIX should be available to as many people in the organization as possible, which is why our pricing is not based on the number of users. We have very transparent pricing plans that are mainly based on the number of objects you want to manage in LeanIX. Our pricing plans can be found on our website.

Q: What’s the achievement LeanIX is most proud of?

A: There are many milestones at LeanIX that we are proud of. However, the release of “Pathfinder” was a very special and proud moment. Only five years after we founded LeanIX, we re-wrote our entire code, proving that it is possible to completely revamp and modernize key technologies of the EAM. The update is based on the latest technology and will generate completely new use cases in the near future and thus raise the company’s IT to the next level. But of course, the opening of our office in Boston, Massachusetts, with a team of six as part of our US market entry strategy was an important but nevertheless logical step as we want to increase our presence and expand our client base in the US continuously. Certainly, Boston is just the beginning and is paving the way for further offices. The US market entry is to be systematically pursued in the coming months. We recently raised 7.5 million Euros in a Series B financing round and were able to win a strong partner for further expansion with DTCP (Deutsche Telekom Capital Partners).

Q: What are your plans for next 12 months?

A: Our goal is to become the world’s leading solution to help companies to modernize their IT architecture. A flexible IT architecture contributes decisively to competitiveness and innovation. Many organizations still have a lot to catch up with, which is often referred to as “digital transformation”. We have just changed our own platform to Microservices and changed the code as a whole. We see tremendous potential for companies to break up their monolithic structures to gain speed and agility. In the next 12 to 18 months, the focus is on the expansion of our team. We want to fill more than 20 open positions in all departments. In November, we will host our 4th EA Connect Day, which is our annual conference on IT architecture where more than 200 experts gather to discuss trends in Enterprise Architecture and beyond.
