Below is our recent interview with Laura Chavez Campero from Muchokids:

Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to Muchokids?

A: Yes of course! Muchokids is a brand new entertainment platform. It’s a multimedia experience for kids comprised of original fantasy/adventure stories and books spanning multiple Muchokids series, as well as videos, games and an app coming very soon. Our various book series are designed to appeal to kids as young as 3 and up through 12 and hopefully even older.

We set up the main Muchokids storyline our first book, out now, called Galaxia and Her Quest to Save the Universe: #TheBeginning. It deals with Galaxia, our main character, losing her home planet to an attack. Everything she knows has been destroyed, and she is now the sole protector of a magical book, which is fabled to hold all the knowledge and power in the universe. Dangerous forces wish to acquire it. She needs help in protecting it! I don’t want to spoil any more, but let’s just say this is where we introduce kids from all over Earth and our hallmark themes of unity and diversity—the real messages we are trying to get across.

We already have so much content in the pipeline—like several other books completed from multiple upcoming MK series. You could say I like to get a little ahead of myself. But for now, this first Galaxia’s Quest book introduces it all. It’s available on Amazon to buy in hardcopy or on Kindle. Or you can read for free and/or watch the videobook on our website. For kids into comedy, action, science-fiction, fantasy, adventure—they should find something they like in our stories. We like to think there is a little something for everyone in there.

Q: With your Muchokids platform, what kinds of ideas are you trying to get across to the public?

A: At Muchokids, the whole team is very forward-thinking. We are all about embracing diversity and including everyone. Sometimes we see people in the world who do not accept others, or even respect them, for whatever reason. This is something that should not be happening. We hope to combat that with our positive messages. We are in the year 2018!

Through entertainment, we want to encourage ideas in our stories of acceptance—no matter any perceived differences. We think think it’s a great lesson to impart on readers and hope parents agree! Doesn’t matter where you’re from, what color your hair is, how tall or short you are… everyone has a place in the Muchokids! And of course, we encourage parents to read the stories too, either for themselves or to their children, if young—there’s lots of jokes and things in there that mom and dad should appreciate as well!

Q: How did you come up to the idea for Muchokids?

A: I’m a global citizen. I’ve lived in several countries and have visited many more. I’ve been inspired by sights, sounds and people all over Earth.

One of my earliest life dreams was to conceive a sci-fi book series, as I have always had a passion for anything sci-fi. I had ideas but never put them on pen and paper and as your life goes on, you start forgetting. However, when I started my MBA at London Business School I decided to keep an open mind and revisit things I had always wanted to do but hadn’t. I also found myself in a place that I can now say is like the adult version of Muchokids. There were people from over 70 different countries all working towards the same goals. And I thought, wouldn’t it be great to encourage this same idea but on a global scale?

So, on a break while I was in LA it all started clicking for me. I had recently gotten an iPad with the penci- stylus you can use to draw on it. I had always liked to draw when I was younger, but hadn’t in years. I decided to start again by sketching some kids, just having fun picking a general style for them and then outfitting the characters in different cultural/regional dress. And that’s what got me thinking—hey, this could be a series about kids from all over the world! And the rest of the concepts started flowing from there. I love that there will one day be characters from every region of Earth. Everyone on this planet will be represented with Muchokids!

Q: Do you have kids? How are they enjoying the material?

A: I have the next best thing: 19 nephews and nieces, no lie! And yes, they are loving Muchokids! One of my favorite nephews who is 6 now, (don’t tell the rest I said that!) recently told my sister that when he grows up, he wants to be an astronaut because he wants to go up into space to meet Galaxia. Then, he said wanted to come back to Earth and meet the Muchokids. I’ve also been told that when he doesn’t behave, the things he least likes being taken away are his Muchokids books and dolls. Maybe this is why he’s one of my favorites? Ha, ha.

Also, Clark, the Muchokids creative director’s niece, will not go sleep without first hearing the story of Gio, the Muchokid’s travelling dog. Whevener she sees the Muchokids in this story, she wants to go to all the places they live in and meet them!

Q: You’ve recently introduced your first book; could you tell us something more?

A: I decided to focus on starting this brand in a book format because I think we need to keep encouraging kids to read. There’s no substitute to what the brain experiences in terms of immersion and imagination while reading. With this in mind, I knew I had to create a story that would introduce all the main characters and set up the world of the Muchokids. This had to be done in a fun, fantasy/adventure way. Clark worked closely with me on this, and as he began writing, it all started clicking together.

As we release the next books, you will see all the inside jokes and references from all the characters to each other throughout the series. It’s fun, because if there is a mystery thread in one story that wasn’t answered, it might get picked back up in another story… and characters pop up everywhere you least expect them. We just really want the whole thing to feel like a living, breathing universe. Because it’s so big, of course, what with covering all of Earth—that creating and maintaining real personalities and characters quirks for each of these Muchokids is extremely important.

Besides that, I want remind that Muchokids focuses on the importance of reading but it’s not just books. We want to encourage kids to read other things such as news and world facts in a fun way, or play games with educational elements, like puzzles and word searches and create their very own Muchokids. That’s all coming in our app, which is in development as we speak!

Q: Which brings me to my next question: the Muchokids app. Tell me all about it!

A: We are so excited about our app! We believe there need to be more apps that offer original content that’s safe and beneficial for kids, which is what we are doing with ours. We will have a subscription- based service that will constantly be updated with our newest stories, new features and miscellaneous content. Kids will start by creating their own character and profile. Then, they access the home portal, where they can navigate to all our content. They will get magic stones, just like the characters in the books, for reading, playing games and so many more activities. With their magic stones, they will be able to get more outfits, powers for games and much more! Our MK members will also be able to see what other kids are reading and what games they are playing. However, there is no direct interaction between users to make sure we can guarantee the app space is 100% safe.

MK fans can read our stories in-app as they are released and watch the videbooks. And besides all the games I mentioned, of which there are many more, we are working on all kinds of content our subscribers will have access to such as original music and meditations made specifically for kids. One of my favorite features is Muchomatters, which is our weekly, online newspaper. I don’t want to spoil too much, but it’s going to make real-world-news really fun, funny and interesting for kids—again, it’s all about getting kids to read and enjoying it!

Oh, and also, if you hate ads as much as I do, you’ll love our app! There will be no hidden in-app advertising or purchase prompts.

Keep up to date on it by following our social media!

Q: I will definitely include your social media links! What are your plans for the future?

A: We are currently working on Spanish translation of our materials, with other languages soon to follow. We really hope to get Muchokids material everywhere. We also have many ideas for content and interactive activities we will be developing for the digital space. There’s talks about making a series, a fashion line, more merchandise. The list in endless. One thing’s for sure, he want to be global, so that no one on Earth will be left behind by the Muchokids!
