Hirevisor is a shared talent network that connects employers with top runners-up candidates from other companies on our platform. Below is our recent interview with Patrick Hillstrom, CEO at Hirevisor:

Patrick Hillstrom

Q: Patrick, tell us something more about Hirevisor?

A: Just as LinkedIn pioneered the concept of passive recruiting at scale, we are evangelizing the concept of “just in time” recruiting – adding trust back into the talent ecosystem and efficiently matching jobseeker supply with employer demand. We whole-heartedly believe that top candidates should be recognized and rewarded for the work they put into their job search, and employers should “pay it forward” with candidates they do not elect to hire. Everybody wins.

Q: How does the Hirevisor shared talent network work?

A: Think of our platform as a two-sided marketplace with both supply and demand components, the only prerequisite being a 10-minute integration with your applicant tracking system. On the supply-side, when candidates are no longer under consideration at one of our partner companies, they automatically receive an invite to join our platform a few days later. Companies can elect to send this invitation as part of their normal rejection template, or via separate email from us. The invited candidate then has the option to accept or ignore the invite from the partner company, complete their profile, and customize how they wish to be presented on the Hirevisor Talent Exchange. In this fashion, employers are able to maintain a great candidate experience, and potentially help job seekers land their next play at the moment of greatest intent.

Shifting to the demand-side, recruiters are now able to source active, high-intent jobseekers who have been vetted by other partner companies. The thesis here is that if I am hiring for a particular rec, and I find a candidate who has been interviewed by a company similar to mine that I know has a high bar for talent, chances are I will want to reach out to that candidate and potentially fast-track them through my own process – ultimately filling that rec in less time, and at a lower cost.

Q: What are the top reasons to reach back out to previously considered candidates?

A: There used to be a stigma that previously considered candidates or “silver medalists” were poor quality and rejected for good reasons. The reality is that far more often, candidates who advance in an interview process only to be rejected at later stages are often rejected for reasons unrelated to their skills or qualifications. In an informal survey of recruiters in the Bay Area, we found more often than not that candidates in this bucket were rejected due to timing, budget, commute, salary expectations, or some “other” factor.

In this spirit, it makes sense to reach back out to these candidates, especially if they have been vetted by other top companies.

Q: Why would you recommend using Hirevisor instead of other recruiting and sourcing tools?

A: On a philosophical level, Hirevisor is leading the way toward adding trust back into the talent ecosystem. Trust between jobseekers and employers, and trust between companies in the same peer group. On a more practical level, Hirevisor helps you find better talent, faster in a truly data driven way. We already have a waitlist of companies looking to join the platform, and your company is not a partner, you are missing out on proprietary insights that not only help your in-house team be more efficient, but also enhance your talent brand in a tangible way.

Q: What are your plans for the future?

A: While we’ve launched Hirevisor in the Bay Area, we ultimately see our platform becoming a global one. We see a future where different talent markets are connected, and a small town in Florida could have access to the same talent as a San Francisco, for example. On the platform itself, we also plan to improve search relevancy with AI and Machine Learning, as well as introduce reputation-focused features to make the platform as helpful to recruiters as it is to candidates.

Q: Where should a jobseeker or employer go to learn more?

A: Hirevisor is free for jobseekers. Feel free to sign up at our website, or if you have received an invite email from one of our partner companies, we encourage you to accept!
