VideoKall is a telemedicine platform provider and technology operator to enable hospitals, clinics and other medical providers to offer healthcare services to remote patients in convenient locations wherever they live, work, travel, go to school or shop. Below is our recent interview with Charles Nahabedian, CEO at VideoKall:

Charles Nahabedian

Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to VideoKall?

A: The platform provides value to medical providers with lower capital and operating costs for serving low-acuity patients in convenient locations. Moreover, providers can enjoy a profitable revenue stream from the services offered over the platform. Providers can share these savings with their patients by offering lower prices. The patients are served locally by on-site micro-clinics providing convenient access for primary healthcare and are connected by fiber or satellite connections for improved ubiquity and mobility.

Q: How did you get the idea for VideoKall?

A: My dad immigrated to the US and I grew up in a family of ten. Money was scarce, and we had no health insurance. When we got sick, it was inconvenient and expensive for us to get to a doctor. My dad would leave work to drive us to our family doctor, in the next town. A chance discussion with a healthcare executive and her nurse practitioner alerted me on the benefits and limitations of telehealth which they had been using for 12 years to monitor home-bound seniors. Because of my circumstances growing up, I developed a passion for pioneering a comprehensive telehealth solution for the underserved populations in the US, and Internationally. The healthcare executive clearly identified the market need and the diagnostic capabilities required.

Q: What type of client would benefit the most from your product?

A: The patient unit is designed for ambulatory patients, including those in wheelchairs, of all ages who need easy access and a quick assessment of their symptoms. The instruments, all FDA cleared for clinical analysis, facilitate a complete set of measurements for seasonal illnesses, minor physical injuries, chronic illnesses, school exams and behavioral counseling. The patients could be in rural, suburban or urban areas where access is less than desirable. The uninsured patients and those with busy schedules will find a local patient unit most appealing.

Q: What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced in launching your business and how did you overcome it?

A: Our biggest challenge we have faced is obtaining adequate financing for a unique and revolutionary approach to telemedicine. I liken it to finding enough funding for Tesla or SpaceX, instead of developing small incremental changes to traditional technology solutions. We overcame this challenge by bootstrapping and issuing stock for services.

Q: Can you give us more insights into your solutions?

A: VideoKall’s vision is to integrate care into peoples’ daily routines and improve the overall health of a population. VideoKall established the requirements not to have personnel (translate: labor costs) at the patient’s point of service, and to target those high-volume cases that can be adequately served by nurse practitioners, rather than requiring higher paid and qualified doctors. Secondly, the platform had to be a natural extension of a hospital, clinic or known medical provider. This requires a fully integrated, software-controlled platform incorporating patient apps on smartphones, and linkages to hospital and regional health databases. Our sales prospects include hospitals, clinics, call centers, retail stores, school, universities, senior living, work centers and other high-need locations. Key aspects of our solution are the patent, and patents pending for the patient unit alleviating the need for paid personnel with the patient. The combination of technologies provides for 24-hour availability. VideoKall has no direct competition for guided telehealth where vital signs are read directly by the medical staff, and the booth is sanitized between patients.

Q: What does the future hold?

A: VideoKall’s telemedicine platform has proprietary hardware and software technology to operate over satellite. This base technology can be applied to various market segment requirements for mobile, enhanced capability and outdoor units, connected to the appropriate serving location to meet specific patient needs. We have identified various opportunities targeting rural America, as well as areas in developing countries. The providers will eventually compete for serving areas in and around their ClinicStop locations.

Q: Where is the company headed?

A: VideoKall has progressed in our market preparation by establishing partnerships for complimentary products and services. This will continue in order to leverage scale in the use of many of today’s alternatives in the market, as well as new technologies, so the indication of wellness is in the patient’s smartphone, and an alert will prompt attention to visit one of our convenient and low-cost units for a specific or complete checkup.
