Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to your company?
A: GenCap Management is a venture capital / private equity firm located in New York. We are industry agnostic but have historically focused on tech, biotech, and direct-to-consumer companies.
Q: Can you give us more insights into what makes your company unique?
A: Not being beholden to one particular investment strategy. We take time to understand the businesses we invest in and deploy capital across the cap table, whether it’s debt, common or preferred equity.
Q: Can you give us insights into your investment philosophy?
A: We try to bet on the jockey, not the horse. That means looking for the right founders that can lead their companies on the right trajectory. Specifically, we seek people that have intellectual integrity, that are introspective enough to learn their strengths and weaknesses, and have clarity of thought.

Q: What can we expect from your company in the next 6 months? What are your plans?
A: I think you’ll see more of our portfolio companies become listed on either the NASDAQ or NYSE. Many of them have reached the stage where they’re turning from R&D companies into sales organizations and have been de-risked enough to be ready for prime time.
Q: What are some of the main objectives for your company in the year ahead and how do you plan to achieve them?
A: Our main goal is managing our risk exposure in what is becoming a very choppy market going into the new year.
Q: What is an interesting or unique thing about your company that people might not know about?
A: We have an annual ping pong tournament at the office, which we all take pretty seriously!
