Canvas Software Allows Engineers To Document And Share Complex Objects And Systems

Listen to this article

Canvas software is used by people to document and share complex objects and systems. Some of the largest companies in the aerospace, defense, and manufacturing markets use Canvas as an integral part of their documentation workflow. Below is our recent interview with Patricia R Hume, CEO at Canvas GFX:

Q: For those who haven’t heard of it, what is the best way to describe Canvas GFX?

A: Canvas is fully committed to continuing to develop our product line to meet the ever-changing requirements of our major customers and the market. From its origins in technical illustration, Canvas is developing solutions that support the rapidly emerging arena of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM). These next-generation SaaS products will enable designers to work collaboratively with their suppliers, customers, and internal service and support groups on live technical documentation with 2D and 3D elements making the entire workflow simple and easy to use.

Q: You’ve recently announced that the company has secured funding from Wisdom LLP; could you tell us something more?

A: Canvas GFX is a unique start up opportunity for investors. I am one of the founding partners of Wisdom LLP and after taking a careful look at the Canvas business and technology, it was easy to decide to make an investment. After spending more time with them, I was offered the opportunity to step in as the new CEO. It was an easy decision because I believe that Canvas has what it takes to become a very successful company. As the new CEO, I will be executing a strategy for growth and will continue the fund-raising activities in the fall of this year to ensure we have the capital needed to realize our vision.

Q: What types of products do you offer to your clients?

A: The Canvas X product portfolio is a complete all-in-one graphic illustration and technical documentation software running on Windows and MAC. The product comes loaded with a comprehensive set of vector object illustration and advanced raster image editing tools. We support over 120 file formats. Canvas X makes creating and sharing professional publications, presentations, how-to manuals, support and maintenance materials easy.

Q: What is Canvas and what are the benefits of using it?

A: We have an impressive list of companies who have standardized on the Canvas products. Rather than me explaining our benefits, here is a direct quote for a power user at Boeing that he posted on our LinkedIn profile just last month. This is from Michael E: “I grew up on Canvas – I use it heavily to this day, teaching my new “Envisioneering team” how to use it-since it’s fast, and thinks like an engineer, (I work in engineering) and doesn’t encumber us with all “graphic designer” distractions forced on us by the other most popular graphics tool on the market…”

Simply put, we are affordable, comprehensive, extensible, and easy to use.

Q: What can we expect from Canvas GFX in the future?

A: Canvas GFX has traditionally delivered products via a perpetual license with annual maintenance fees. We will be introducing a new product suite that is hosted in the cloud, allowing our customers to access our products and services on a subscription (SaaS) model. Looking to the near future, we’re promoting the concept of “Visual Collaboration,” in which documents of all kinds – 2D and 3D images, text, .jpeg, .pdf, etc. – will be accessible in the cloud to view, share, and update on fixed or mobile devices.
