Meet Cloud Dentistry – A Web And App-Based Marketplace Where Dental Offices Can Book Dental Professionals For Work Assignments

Listen to this article

Cloud Dentistry is a web and app-based marketplace where dental offices can book dental professionals for work assignments, on-demand. They’re basically bringing the sharing economy to the dental staffing industry, through a platform that combines elements of Uber and LinkedIn. Below is our recent interview with Trey Tepichin, Co-Founder of Cloud Dentistry:

Q: What are the advantages of switching from working with permanent employees to temporary staff in practice?

A: Dental offices should always have a core team of full-time employees and strive to keep them as engaged in possible. Realistically, however, this is not always possible. Over 50% of dental professionals are either part-time or temporary workers. Add to this the typical absenteeism in a business that relies heavily on human capital—car trouble, sick days, vacations, etc.—and it’s almost unavoidable that, at least a handful of days out of every month, a dental office will need a reliable source of temporary staff.

The advantages of having a temporary labor force readily available include, among others, cost savings and enhanced productivity. From a cost perspective, it is much cheaper to hire a temporary hygienist or an assistant than to have one essentially on retainer as a backup. Productivity also receives a boost. A pool of high-quality temps will save a dental office from having to cancel or reschedule patients when shorthanded.

Q: How has the dentistry changed in general over the last few years?

A: The dental industry has traditionally lagged behind other sectors in terms of software, cloud-based solutions and the sharing economy. Recently, however, the dental industry has been catching up. Now dental offices have a whole suite of apps and software-based solutions for everything from patient recall, invoicing, lead generation and staffing. These changes have empowered small dental practices to achieve the same economies of scale as larger dental conglomerates—effectively leveling the playing field.

Q: What does it look like to be a dental hygienist these days? What are the pros and cons?

A: Now, more than ever before, dental hygienists are the backbone of dental practices. As a result, top producing hygienists are highly sought after and very well compensated. Even so, the job is not without its occasional uncomfortable, challenging or funny situations. Hygienists report everything from experiencing back and hand pain from long hours, to having to act as a patient’s impromptu psychotherapist. As one of Cloud Dentistry’s users, Connie Lynn Merritt puts it: “Pros are the great patients and great pay. I think cons could be being bitten by a patient by accident or drooled on. Being honest here…”

Q: What’s the best thing about Cloud Dentistry that people might not know about?

A: In just 3 short years, Cloud Dentistry has registered over 30,000 dental offices, hygienists and assistants, who have transacted over 300,000 connections and earned, for themselves, an additional $10M+ of income. We empower the dental community to work when they want, where they want, at the rates they choose. The one piece of Cloud Dentistry that is often overlooked is our free ambassador program, that lets our supporters earn a 15% revenue share of originations. Anyone can enroll as an ambassador, including our current users, here. Once enrolled, there’s a simple sharing link that you can circulate all over social media and through email and text. We have ambassadors that are earning thousands of dollars in residual income from having helped us expand our markets.

We not only want to empower the dental community to advance their dental careers; we want the community at large to share in our growth.
