Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to Scout APM?

A: Founded by Andre Lewis, Charles Brian Quinn, and Derek Haynes in 2008, Scout APM is a leading provider of Application Performance Management (APM) software “built for developers, by developers”. Scout APM helps developers and application administrators gain insight into their software’s performance in less than 4 minutes by providing monitoring of key metrics surrounding web-application performance.

Q: Can you give us more insights into your products?

A: Scout APM is a backend web development tool that uses tracing logic to connect bottlenecks to source code so developers can quickly identify and fix performance abnormalities such as N+1 queries, memory bloat, slow database queries and more. Scout’s APM solution supports Ruby, PHP, Python, Elixir, and Node.js languages and offers a 14-day free trial for developers to experience the power of Scout’s developer-centric UI for themselves. Scout recently launched a new error monitoring feature add-on that’s compatible for Ruby users (with other languages to come) and connects all the observability insights you need within one platform.

Q: Who is your ideal client and why?

A: Scout’s ideal clients are junior to senior level developers, and application administrators, working within the development department at SMBs and start-up businesses across many industries. Scout’s customers include companies such as Recurly, Root Insurance, KPMG, and Broadcom, among others.

Q: What can we expect from Scout APM in next 6 months? What are your plans?

A: Scout expects to expand their Error Monitoring Feature addon services to multi-language and framework support for PHP, Python, Node.JS and Elixir in the next 6-12 months. We expect to roll out error monitoring support for both PHP and Python by Q3 2021.

Q: What is the best thing about Scout APM that people might not know about?

A: How quickly you can make improvements to your code with Scout APM. You can get meaningful insight into where your application is running slow in less than 4 minutes. All the features mentioned above (i.e. memory leaks, n+1 queries, slow database queries, etc.) are all out of the box with no additional work required. If you combine those performance insights with error monitoring you can rest easy knowing your application is running smoothly. Scout also has flexible custom pricing and our yearly plans that provide more support and advanced alerting for larger businesses. Lastly, we want our free trial users to get the full experience so you can try our pro plan for free which includes the database addon feature.
