Q: What is your core competence?

A: We help our customers bringing integrated photonics solutions from a concept into a manufacturable design. Supporting them to transition from research to development to successful product introduction in a variety of application areas. The challenge in this emerging industry is to bridge the gap between system and chip designers and the fabrication technologies. PhoeniX Software’s core competence is to enable easy and cost-effective realization of integrated photonics chips and systems, by means of our internally developed first-class design software covering the entire design flow and focusing on manufacturability. Based on our extensive knowledge of design and fabrication of photonic integrated circuits we are the only company selling software tools that support an efficient transfer from designer intent to final design, enabling better photonic chip designs in less time.

Q: You’ve recently announced partnership with Sandia National Laboratories; tell us something more?

A: Silicon photonics holds the potential to become a cost-effective, scalable technology for the production of photonic integrated circuits (PICs) to address applications including high-performance optical networking, data center interconnects, signal processing and biological and chemical sensing. A comprehensive photonics process design kit (PDK) is critical to enabling a design methodology that ensures predictable operation and reliable, repeatable fabrication of complex PIC designs for these demanding applications. PhoeniX Software and Sandia National Laboratories are jointly developing a photonics PDK for Sandia’s integrated photonics manufacturing processes. Collaborating with Sandia National Laboratories not only fits our company strategy, but also contributes towards our common goal which is creating an easy access and well-functioning ecosystem for our mutual customers to be able to realize their designs.
