HeyUpdate helps teams to keep in sync. Whether your team is based in the same office or you are working remotely, HeyUpdate will send a daily reminder (via email, Slack or HipChat) for you to write an update on what you did that day. This update gives qualitative context to the activity stream which automatically reports what everyone has been working on by integrating with the tools and services you already use; escaping notification overload with a simple summary of your team’s daily activity. Reflect, share and track your progress. Below is our interview with Tom Graham, Founder of HeyUpdate:
Q: Tell us your story and something more about HeyUpdate?
A: HeyUpdate was born from a need I identified whilst working as a scrum master. The team was a mix of office based and remote, so I quickly made something which allowed us to record what we had done that day, which assisted us in our daily stand-up. This helped those people who once stood there with blank faces as they tried to remember what they had done the previous day. Other teams began to use it which spurred me on to continue to make improvements.

Q: What advantage does HeyUpdate have over its competitors?
A: HeyUpdate allows users to give context to the activity stream which automatically reports what everyone has been working on by integrating with the tools and services you already use. There are huge benefits in taking time at the end of the day to reflect on what you have accomplished and being able to share this with your team promotes a culture of openness, empowering teams to self-manage and take ownership of their achievements. But when you add this with the activity stream from other tools and services you already use you are able to see in one place, a summary of your teams achievements making it easy to track progress.

Q: Tell us something more about integrations?
A: We have two types of integrations, some more reporting updates (email, Slack, HipChat, etc.) and others which pull in activity to be displayed in the timeline (GitHub, Jira, etc.). We’re constantly adding new integrations and trying to improve the usefulness. It’s something our customers really love.
Q: Do you have any new features in the pipeline?
A: Although we love the simplicity of the product there are always improvements to be made. A calendar view to look back on previous updates, more integrations and an API are all in the pipeline.
