Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to Smithereen Pest Management?
A: Our company was established in 1888, and Smithereen was one of the first pest control companies to offer an Integrated Pest Management approach to pest issues. We work with both residential customers and commercial businesses and we help with a variety of different pests and wildlife.

Q: You’ve recently acquired Service Termite & Pest Control; could you tell us something more?
A: Smithereen recently acquired Service Termite & Pest Control, which is based in Danville, Illinois. This partnership will allow Smithereen to expand our service areas to serve customers in Danville, Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, and Crawfordsville, Indiana.
Our goal is that existing Service Termite & Pest Control customers will continue to receive the same great service they’ve always known. Service Termite & Pest Control aligns with our values and goals, and we are excited for the future of Smithereen in the area.
Q: What types of services do you provide to your clients? Which regions?
A: We offer integrated pest management to commercial pest control and residential pest control customers across seven different states: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri and Wisconsin. We specialize in bed bug abatement—one of the toughest pests—and we offer both heat treatment and traditional chemical treatments, and both residential and commercial services.
Q: How often should pest control be done?
A: This is an easy answer for commercial settings: at minimum, you should have commercial pest control completed once a month. For apartments and homes, we recommend regular pest control treatments on a quarterly basis, or 2 to 3 months, in order to effectively prevent common pests or when you move into a new home or apartment. For more serious infestations, monthly treatments over the course of 3 to 6 months are advisable. However, your location, building size, weather conditions, time of year, and type of pest can all impact the recommended frequency.
