Stability AI, the innovative startup behind the image-generating model Stable Diffusion, has launched a groundbreaking service called Stable Doodle. This new tool harnesses the power of the latest Stable Diffusion model to transform sketches into visually appealing artistic renditions.
A New Era of Digital Art
Stable Doodle is a unique addition to the realm of sketch-to-image AI tools. It stands out by offering users more precise control over the image generation process. This service is available through ClipDrop, a platform that Stability AI acquired in March from Init ML, an AI startup founded by former Google employees.
The tool is designed to cater to both professionals and novices, regardless of their familiarity with AI tools. Stability AI emphasizes that anyone with basic drawing skills and online access can generate high-quality original images in seconds using Stable Doodle.
The Technology Behind Stable Doodle
Stable Doodle is powered by a Stable Diffusion model, Stable Diffusion XL, paired with a conditional control solution developed by Tencent’s R&D division, the Applied Research Center (ARC). This control solution, known as T2I-Adapter, enables Stable Diffusion XL to accept sketches as input and guides the model to enable better fine-tuning of the output artwork.
Stability AI explains that the T2I-Adapter allows Stable Doodle to understand the outlines of sketches and generate images based on prompts combined with the outlines defined by the model.
How Stable Doodle Works
In addition to a sketch, Stable Doodle accepts a prompt to guide the image generation process, such as “A comfy chair, ‘isometric’ style” or “Cat with a jeans jacket, ‘digital art’ style.” However, at launch, Stable Doodle only supports 14 styles of art.
Stability AI envisions Stable Doodle as a tool for designers, illustrators, and other professionals to maximize efficiency in their work. The quality of output images is dependent on the detail of the initial drawing, the descriptiveness of the prompt, and the complexity of the scene being depicted.
The Future of Stable Doodle
Stability AI has plans to further enhance Stable Doodle’s capabilities. Future updates will enable users to import a sketch and will include use cases for specific verticals, including real estate applications.
Stable Doodle is part of Stability AI’s strategy to explore new sources of revenue. The tool is free but subject to limits. Stability AI recently raised $25 million through a convertible note, bringing its total raised to over $125 million.
With the launch of Stable Doodle, Stability AI continues to push the boundaries of AI and digital art, offering users a new way to bring their sketches to life.
