An Interview With Antonin Pasquereau, The Founder Of BlackcatSEO

Below is our recent interview with Antonin Pasquereau, the Founder of BlackcatSEO:

Q: For those who haven’t heard of it, what is the best way to describe BlackcatSEO?

A: Our agency gathers actual craftsmen of the web. BlackcatSEO is small web agency with a lots of talent. For many years now, we have been offering consulting services to realign digital strategies for large companies, or directly to work on certain aspects of their SEO, for companies of all sizes and for a wide range of mandates. BlackCat is especially known for its efficiency in acquiring non-branded organic traffic. I think we will come back to it !

Q: Antonin, can you tell us something more about your background? What were you doing before BlackcatSEO?

A: Before starting my business, I studied business school in the west of France, which allowed me to study abroad for almost two years. So as soon as I left to work in Montreal after graduation my ideas about entrepreneurship were already open. During my first year in Quebec, I assisted marketing and communication teams from a few companies. Then I decided to dedicate a whole year to learn SEO, from coding to link building and more.

Then I had the chance to apply the techniques learned during this last year in two large companies in Quebec or France. 6 years ago our agency was incorporated and gradually the number of customers required a full-time investment from my part. We now work with 5 people on an on-going basis, all dedicated to their specialty.

Q: What is the best way to generate SEO value for a website? How hard is it?

A: The best way to generate SEO value for any site is to bring useful information that will put you as an expert. All strategies and other technical fixes are more or less important depending on the site, but the quality of the content remains crucial.

Then comes the external promotion, since the algorithm that offers the search rankings includes many external factors or signals. This often results in publications that will be shared on social networks and thus generate value to feed the prospect. There are different tools then to measure the value of each content internally or externally to the site.

That’s really what makes the difference between an agency, and another : what are your contacts and how did you negociate the price for your articles ! Since we have many years in the field, we have really good rates for Canadian, french, and US publications. Lots of clients come to us for that reason.

Q: What is an SEO audit and why is it important? Who should work on it?

A: An audit is generally crucial for large sites where e-commerce sites that dynamically generates URLs and content for example: it is essential to maintain control over the structure of its site to ensure that Google focuses on indexing important pages. Also, because big companies generates lots of media coverage, we have to maintain a good image, reputation, and quality of referal links.

But the audit of small sites is also important at another level: the organization of content, meta tags, or headings is more important because fewer pages are indexed to capture long tail traffic.

In any case, there are common and serious problems like inaccessible pages, or backlinks to inaccessible pages! So in terms of benefits, the audit is invaluable to start a strategy that will not be hampered by technical or other problems.

Q: Who are your clients and what challenges you’re helping them solve?

A: We are fortunate to have as many small customers, but also large companies in the automotive market or in human resources who have trusted us for several years. Adecco, randstad, lightspeed, sendinblue, are all great brands with whom we are moving towards more results. This large spectrum of markets we’re involved in allow us to really operate strategy at the perfect scale.

Q: What can we expect from BlackcatSEO in the future?

A: In the future, several partnerships are expected with Quebec or French companies. Our main challenge is to satisfy a growing number of customers each year, so we need to expand the business while maintaining the same protocols and quality criteria.

We have been working with the ‘Mobylette Jaune’ in Lyon for more than a year and many beautiful projects are expected from this collaboration!
