Most prominently, Mizrahi and his team are constructing The One, a supertower to be located at the intersection of Yonge and Bloor Streets in downtown Toronto. Once completed, The One will be Canada’s tallest residential and retail tower and also the country’s first supertall (300+ m) skyscraper and will feature a mix of commercial and retail space.
Q: The One is one of the largest developments being constructed in Toronto. Could you provide our readers with an update on the status of the development?
Sam Mizrahi: Sure. Activity is continuing at the construction site, where below-grade work is being carried out. The drilling for the mega caissons that will act as footings for The One’s hybrid exoskeleton is well underway. We brought in heavy-duty machinery, including a massive drilling rig, and since the arrival of that equipment, crews have been busy working on the underground columns that will support the building’s unique structural system.
Q: With some of the city’s tallest structures being built, including The One, the Toronto skyline is expected to change dramatically in the near future. Can you speak to this?
Sam Mizrahi: Toronto is quickly growing into one of the most diverse cities in the world and I think the city deserves a skyline that ranks with other prominent international cities. Also, with growth comes responsibility – a responsibility to build structures that will be fresh and innovative not just today, but twenty years from now. One of our goals with The One really is to help put Canada on the international map in terms of architecture and design.
Q: What do you think is attracting more people to Toronto?
Sam Mizrahi: Part of the growth is due to Toronto’s advances in technology, and as a result, the city is praised for having the one of the highest concentrations of artificial intelligence (AI) startups in the world. Unemployment is low and more people are moving to the city for employment. It’s really a great time to be a Torontonian.

Q: Mizrahi Developments specializes in the high-end luxury marketplace with a brand known for its commitment to craftsmanship. In your opinion, why is attention to detail a crucial component of the construction business?
Sam Mizrahi: Creating timeless design I think is fundamental to a successful construction project. It is critical to build only the best in quality, using the best materials and craftsmanship. Architecture and design have been my passions for a long time. It’s my form of art and really, a way to express my creativity.
Q: What is your advice to young real estate professionals starting out in the industry?
Sam Mizrahi: Look for underdeveloped opportunities that allow you to carve out your own niche in the development world. Be passionate about every single project and remain persistent. Also, be in the right place at the right time but actually know how to seize that opportunity when it presents itself. Above all, you’ve got to pull up your sleeves and know exactly what’s going on at every construction site.
