Below is our interview with Vladimir Nekrasov from Contour Components:
Q: Can you tell us a little bit more about Contour Components and its history?
A: Contour Components has been developing analytical tools for more than a decade. We started with the OLAP component ContourCube intended primarily for developers. It was the very first cube in-memory product and the fastest analytical tool on the market. Ultimately ContourCube was bought and embedded in the business applications of thousand of companies from over 70 countries including some major Forbes 100 corporations as well as many medium and small sized companies.
We closed the software component project in 2011 and began to focus on an innovative web based “out-of-the-box” Business Intelligence platform designed for corporations, statistical agencies and government organizations. Working on custom projects for some big companies like Shell, Nokian Tyres, and Telefonica, as well as national statistical institutes and government agencies created circumstances ideal for perfecting the platform, an opportunity we took full advantage of. We have recently begun to sell it online.

Q: You and National Security Solutions announced the integration of your Business Intelligence platform Contour BI 6 with National Security Solutions’ ERP Financial System; can you say a little more about that?
A: National Security Solutions developers have been using ContourCube for many years, and this year upgraded it to Contour BI 6. Employing the visual designer to create dozens of dashboards without coding and using API to integrate authentication and security, they provided users with reporting and analytical features, making the necessary improvements in a very short period of time.
Contour BI’s advanced security technology allows administrators to manage thousands of users from hundreds of companies.
Q: What are the main advantages of your platform?
A: For one: extremely fast interactive reports and dashboards, based on a cube in-memory OLAP engine, parallel calculations and terminal-like web technology.
And the fact that you’re dealing with zero coding, self-service BI, which means that an analytical solution can be implemented very fast; highly interactive sophisticated reports and dashboards can be created by non-technical users.
And finally, the rich analytical features – interactive tables, charts, embedded multilayer maps.

Q: Who is your ideal customer and why?
A: The platform can be of benefit to a wide range of customers, but probably there are two kinds of ideal customers.
The first: developers of database-oriented software. They can accelerate their products with our BI platform and distribute it to a virtually unlimited number of customers. The second: IT departments of big organizations, for whom our platform, on account of its affordability and user-friendliness, can work as a project level solution deployed in a relatively short period of time.

Q: What can we expect from Contour Components in the next six months? What are your plans?
A: We are going to continue to provide our customers with innovative technologies in BI. A new release of our “adaptive client” will be available shortly. The “adaptive client” makes it possible to view the same report on a desktop, a tablet or a smartphone without any modification. The new release will make it more natural; web pages opened on smartphones will look like native applications. Customers of Contour BI Portal will be able to provide unlimited users with reports and dashboards on all devices.
We are working on a version of Contour BI that will connect to Eurostat, showing data from their database, something we did already for World Bank’s World Development Indicators database. Users of Contour Reporter will be able to analyze hundreds of statistical datasets covering 25+ European countries with our powerful Business Intelligence tool. Contour BI Portal will allow them to publish their own interpretation of this data in the form of an analytical website for a wide range of users.
