Epik Provides The AI, Blockchain, And Edge Technology Skills To Accelerate Software Development

Listen to this article

Below is our recent interview with Kevin Hannah, VP of Product Marketing and Strategy at Epik:

Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to your company?

A: Founded in Nov 2019, Epik works with startups looking to bring about a market revolution and established companies with innovation initiatives exploring new technologies to change the game. We provide the AI, Blockchain, and Edge technology skills to accelerate software development, alongside the domain expertise to help design, deploy, and deliver products across the success finish line.

Epik is developing products and services that improve global sustainability and serve the Vehicle-to-Grid and AgriTech sectors.

Q: Any highlights on your recent announcement?

A: Epik recently announced that we had joined AgGateway, the leading global forum across agricultural industry sectors where companies come together to solve digital challenges. AgGateway’s ADAPT toolkit eliminates the major pain points inhibiting the growth of precision agriculture by enabling interoperability and data flow among different software and hardware applications.

At Epik, we develop solutions for GHG measurement, reporting, and mitigation at the farm level. There is a requirement for enhanced data acquisition and AI modeling across land preparation, fertilization, protection, planting, irrigation, harvesting, measurement/scouting, post-processing, transport, and carbon sequestration. Epik plans to help extend the ADAPT data model to support GHG management. The first step will be to explore the potential of a new GHG Management Working Group with the AgGateway community.

We strongly feel that standardization around how GHG is measured will open new business opportunities for many companies working in this space and enable farmers to meet sustainability mandates better.

Q: Can you give us more insights into your offering?

A: We are both a technology services and an emerging product company, with an engagement model designed to meet the needs of two types of technology clients.

First are the technology entrepreneurs – intelligent and driven people with great ideas who may or may not have started a company around those ideas. The key identifying feature of these clients is that they are missing a piece of the puzzle getting in the way of progressing their business. Perhaps they don’t have a team that can do the kind of market research they need to identify their opportunities and threats. Maybe they don’t have the level of IT expertise they need. Or perhaps they don’t have the engineering team they need to get their product over the finish line. In such cases, Epik has a flexible model that can identify and fill the gaps they have in their team.

For our larger clients, we act as a “skunkworks for hire.” It’s often problematic for big companies to pivot and explore new lines of business that require different expertise that they don’t necessarily have in-house. For example, artificial intelligence (AI) is a need across industries. Companies that are NOT looking at implementing AI in their business are in danger of being left behind. But most don’t have in-house AI expertise, and it is too expensive and risky to hire permanent employees before they know what will work within their business. In such cases, Epik can step in. We explore new technological possibilities, do the market research and business planning, and even deploy a proof-of-concept before these clients need to hire an internal team.

With both types of clients, the key is that we offer the flexibility to identify the gaps and bring together a knowledgeable team to fill those gaps and get our customers’ programs on track.

Q: What can we expect from your company in next 6 months? What are your plans?

A: Revenue from our services business is on track to more than double in 2021. In addition, we are beginning to see many commonalities across our customer base that have developed into product ideas of our own. We don’t want to give too much away before launching products later in 2021, but let’s say that we look forward to contributing to the fight against climate change through sustainable agriculture.

Q: What is the best thing about your company that people might not know about?

A: Our culture is 100% collaborative and constructive. There are no hierarchies or silos tolerated, and we truly have each other’s backs within our internal team and when working in an extended client team. We believe that there is no such thing as a bad idea and that it is our job to help our clients and each other figure out a way to make ideas work… and profitable.
