Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to NAKIVO?
A: NAKIVO is a US-based software company dedicated to developing an affordable yet comprehensive data protection solution for virtualized and cloud environments – NAKIVO Backup & Replication. The company was founded in 2012 and over the past seven years we have expanded the list of supported platforms to include VMware, Hyper-V, AWS EC2, and now also Nutanix AHV. Aside from operations in the US, we are proud to be well represented in Europe and Asia, developing closer contact with our more than 11,000 paid customers and 4,000 partners who are spread across over 140 countries.

Q: Can you give us insights into your solution?
A: Our flagship product, NAKIVO Backup & Replication, features robust backup, replication, and site recovery functionality for virtualization and cloud environments. We have just rolled out the 25th special software release, NAKIVO Backup & Replication v8.5, which adds support for Nutanix AHV.
The product includes an extensive set of features aimed at ensuring simple, reliable, and efficient data protection. By using NAKIVO Backup & Replication, users can put their core data protection tasks on auto-pilot in a couple of clicks, orchestrate disaster recovery activities, test DR scenarios, recover any item of their infrastructures in a matter of minutes, achieve remarkable results in backup performance and data size reduction, and much more.
Although it is a complete solution with high-end functionality, NAKIVO Backup & Replication delivers a smooth and intuitive user experience, requiring little-to-no technical expertise. This has always been among our key differentiators.
Q: You’ve recently announced that Seoul City Gas has selected NAKIVO Backup & Replication to protect their VMware environment; could you tell us something more?
A: We have amassed many success stories with our customers and this one with Seoul City Gas is yet another great story about how our solution helped a recognized organization simplify and efficiently manage their data protection.
SCG had been using their previous data protection solution for years, but it never delivered the desired results, which risked entailing some serious problems for the organization as a whole. Like many other companies that consider switching from their current data protection solutions, SCG was looking for software that would be reliable and easy-to-use, deliver high performance, and still manage to offer lower licensing costs. Another crucial factor for SCG was the possibility to integrate a solution with NAS devices, particularly with a Synology NAS.
One of our Korean value-added distributors recommended SCG to test the capabilities of NAKIVO Backup & Replication in their environment, and the solution turned out to be exactly what they were looking for. Our software was easily installed on their Synology NAS device and now it allows for a much simpler and effective data protection management, delivering at least four times higher backup speed, and is much more affordable compared to their previous solution. We are glad SCG has joined the ranks of our happy customers.
Q: Why NAKIVO? What makes you the best choice?
A: Our ultimate goal has always been to deliver “the best data protection value for your money” and we are proud that our solution is still just as affordable as it was in 2012. The product has evolved into industry-grade software that measures up to market dominators but nevertheless remains available at a fraction of their cost.
NAKIVO Backup & Replication offers multiple deployment options, including direct installation on NAS devices of leading storage vendors such as ASUSTOR, NETGEAR, QNAP, Synology, and Western Digital. This is one of the primary reasons why companies choose to switch to NAKIVO Backup & Replication, just as SCG recently did. Such an approach lowers the cost and complexity of data protection. All in all, our solution allows users to protect their environments in a simple, integrated, and cost-effective manner, which is exactly why they opt for us over other solutions.

Q: What are your plans for the future?
A: As usual, we will continue developing new features and enhancing old ones to live up to and exceed the expectations of our clients. In the very near future, responding to numerous customer requests, we plan to add support for physical servers. This way, we will be able to offer users a truly unified solution for data protection.
