PROJECTS Builds Housing That Is Easily Accessible, Beautifully Designed And Community-Focused

Below is our recent interview with Luca Bovone, the CEO of PROJECTS:

Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to PROJECTS?

A: PROJECTS is one of the leading co-living providers in Europe. We build housing that is easily accessible, beautifully designed and community-focused. Our vision is to build a global network of homes where people can move freely across countries and cities within the same subscription. We were founded in 2017 in Berlin, Germany.

Q: How did you get the idea for building such homes?

A: I had worked and studied in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Milan, Madrid, Dublin and San Francisco for the past 5 years of my life. Everywhere I went, I always encountered the same problems: a) very difficult to find an apartment with info scattered across different local websites in local languages (imagine in China); b) When you’re lucky and find a place, you have to go to IKEA to buy always the same things, you have to set-up contracts with internet suppliers, cleaning, exc.. making it very time consuming and expensive, especially when you only live in one place for 6 months or less c) roommates are a lottery, you don’t know who is living with you, which could damage your experience in the city. So I thought: how can we solve all these 3 problems? The solution is housing that is easy to find and rent online, beautifully designed with everything you need: furnitures and services all inclusive and lastly a community of people like you that you share experiences in the new city.

Q: What exactly do you offer to your clients?

A: Housing and community as a service. This means, when you start your PROJECTS subscription you get access to a room that is fully furnished and all-inclusive (including internet, gas, electricity and other bills) in a shared apartment, co-living building or studio apartment if you’d like more privacy. After you move in, you get access to the local community events, that include parties, movie viewings, art and food.

Q: What is the definition of the house of the future?

A: The housing of the future needs to address the biggest trends that our world is facing: increase of population and difficulty/unwillingness in purchasing a home for the new generations. With 1.2B more people expected by 2030, and 70% of them in urban areas, cities will face a challenge of building housing that is more efficient, both in space and energy. Co-living is a solution, making homes more efficient by sharing some resources like kitchens, bathrooms and other amenities. Secondly, with the steep decrease in home ownership and the increased willingness of “access” rather than “ownership”, homes need to become a high quality service, and not a cumbersome process like it is now.

Q: What’s next for PROJECTS? Do you have plans to grow, expand or diversify?

A: Our mission is to build the best housing experience, anywhere. This gives an indication of our two areas of focus and expansion. First is best, which means continuously improving our product, so that the user can have the highest quality stay in our homes, starting from the digital booking experience to the physical quality of our location. Second is anywhere, which means allowing our customers to move across city and country borders within our network of homes. To do that, we want to expand to as many countries as we can, starting from Spain, where which is our second country, we are heading to Portugal and Italy in 2020.
