Below is our recent interview with Francis Cordor, CEO of Ducor Sports:
Q: Can you tell our readers a little about Ducor Sports?
A: Certainly. Ducor Sports is a digital sports network focusing on the latest sports news, events, and other happenings of interest to African sports fans living in Africa or abroad. Unlike other sports networks in Africa focused on a single sport, we cover all of Africa’s favorite sports. We offer text-, video-, and podcast-based coverage of basketball, cricket, soccer, tennis, boxing, golf, rugby, and track.
We launched during the summer Olympics in Rio in 2016 and have grown our audience substantially since then.
Q: And you also just launched sports analytics software?
A: Yes, we’re in the beta testing phase and just released our Windows and Mac versions over the last two weeks.

Q: How did you go from sports journalism to technology developer?
A: Actually, I’m a software engineer by trade, so developing analytics software for our audience was a natural fit. One that I was passionate about doing.
Q: What does the sports analytics software do? How does it work?
A: The software is intended to help sports managers and athletes gain a deeper understanding of future performance based on previous performance and raw data. Thus, it connects to a database loaded with athlete, team, and league data. Users can then select the season followed by the team to analyze. They can select just one team if interested only in that team’s data and matchups or two teams for head-to-head stats.
Once a team is loaded, they can drill down to the player level for detailed stats of any given player. The software analyzes the data and uses data visualizations to better help users interpret a player or team’s performance.
As I mentioned, it’s in the beta version right now, so its database is currently limited to the current NBA season and playoffs. As we fine-tune the software based on user feedback, we will expand the database to other leagues, sports, and seasons.
Q: Can regular sports fans access the software?
A: Yes, it’s a fantastic tool for anyone interested in sports analysis. As a sports fan myself, I’m always looking at the numbers, checking out stats, and attempting to predict winning teams. We’ve heard back from several of our users that they want to use it to help with their fantasy sports picks.

Q: What are your long-term plans for the software?
A: Beyond putting the finishing touches on it and formally launching it after beta testing, my goal is to help African sports teams put it to good use within their own organizations. I’d ultimately like them to be able to enter their own custom team data into the software so they can get the insights they need to perform at the highest level.
