SKEG Delivers Cloud Software & Mobile Applications For Maritime Professionals

Listen to this article

SKEG provides cloud software and mobile application technology for maritime professionals. SKEG is founded on established maritime principles, shaped by decades of naval experience and guided by military leadership with an affinity for admiralty law.

Below is our recent interview with Matthew Feehan, the Founder and CEO at SKEG:

Q: Where did the concept of SKEG begin?

A: The SKEG profile concept began by solving a common problem in the maritime industry. I personally experienced this problem each time I completed teaching a block of sailing instruction. My clients would ask me, “how do we contact you in the future?” I would respond by forwarding them to the yacht club that facilitated the transaction. Thus, I was referring clients without receiving compensation.

The question my clients were strategically rewording was, actuality, “how can we bypass the middlemen that facilitated our transaction?” Consumers do not want to pay middlemen companies’ high transaction fees, and maritime professionals are tired of losing large portions of their profits.

Q: Can you give us more insights into your software?

A: The cloud software and mobile application technology will:

• Encourage licensed mariners to promote their hard-earned credentials using high-impact marketing tools.
• Create job opportunities for portal managers to validate maritime credentials in real time.
• Simplify USCG licensing procedures and provide unique, digital tracks to ensure professionals’ success
• Provide resources and track mapping for next level certification
• Track, document and export sea-time and maintenance logs for maritime professionals.

Q: Tell us something more about your membership options?

A: We offer three types of memberships, all with differing levels of customization. An Individual Membership includes a single mariner profile and a single vessel profile. Your SKEG profile is your high-impact marketing tool to promote either your own maritime credentials, your vessel, or both. If you own a second vessel, an additional vessel profile can be added for a nominal fee.

A Small Fleet Membership includes five mariner profiles and five vessel profiles. Typically, these memberships are attractive for small clubs and boating associations. Conversely, for much larger clubs and associations, we offer an Enterprise Membership. An Enterprise Membership includes 20 mariner profiles and 20 vessel profiles, with flexible options for additional profiles. With an Enterprise Membership, maritime organizations will have the ability to manage their own label and associated members’ profiles. Features, such as portal manager, will allow larger organizations to manage their employees and independent contractors.

Q: What are your plans for next six months?

A: Registration is now open to introductory pricing for interested maritime professionals and we will focus on facilitating the registration process, while building and refining our professional directory. In April, we will begin application design for iOS, Android and web interfaces. In June, we will begin the physical development of all application interfaces, server and client-side architectures and web services. By the end of 2018, the SKEG application will be fully functional and ready for market. Everyone that registers with us, before August 31, 2018, will get access to the platform before it goes live to the rest of the world. Beta will last for roughly 60 days.
