Switcher Helps Creators And Companies Produce Stunning, Polished Live Shows With The Devices They Already Own

Below is our recent interview with Nick Mattingly, Co-Founder and CEO at Switcher Studio:

Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to your company?

A: By 2014 — before Meerkat and Periscope and Facebook Live we Switcher co-founders Nick Mattingly and Dan Petrik were all in with live video. For four years Dan and I had run an agency that helped businesses create and stream online video, but we noticed a problem: Going live — and doing it well — was prohibitively expensive for most businesses. Our clients kept losing steam when they saw how costly and tricky the video equipment could be, so we knew there had to be a better way.

In 2014, we partnered with fellow co-founders Ernesto Ramos, Matt Hensley and Gabe Mondada (a video app developer in Switzerland), and we launched Switcher Studio, a mobile video-creation platform. Switcher helps creators and companies produce stunning, polished live shows with the devices they already own. It can sync up to 9 iOS devices, letting creators switch angles, edit live, and stream anywhere. In 2015, Facebook Live launched — a major milestone in bringing livestreaming to the masses — and Switcher Studio was named an official Facebook Live launch partner.

Switcher continues to grow. We’ve added new partnerships with Microsoft Stream and LinkedIn. The original team of five has grown to 40+ team members, with offices in Louisville, Kentucky, and Yverdon-les-Bains, Switzerland. And our original passion for live video has spread as well. Switcher now has users creating amazing videos in more than 117 countries, and we think that’s just the beginning.

Q: Any highlights on your recent announcement?

A: We’ve had a couple of really big announcements the last few weeks, and we’re just getting started. In late-September we announced the addition of live selling features and vertical video in the latest updates to the Switcher Studio app.

As a result of the continued growth in live shopping, combined with the need for retailers to identify new ways to reach and connect with customers, we created new functionality within our video production and livestreaming app to support the business customer with annual revenues of $100k+, and with a social media following of 10k or more.

Many of the Live Selling videos available online today lack the personalization and graphics that are needed to create interest and engagement among potential customers. Up until this point, the alternative has been investing in a highly produced video with talent and crew, which can cost as much as $20k for a single Live Selling video.

With the launch of the enhanced Live Selling features in the Switcher Studio app, now any retailer can tap into the strength and power of their iPhone camera to add this new selling channel in a branded, high-quality, and affordable way on their own. By utilizing Switcher’s one-tap Live Selling Cards, businesses will be able to easily personalize in-app templates to display product images alongside their logo and their camera as part of a fully customizable experience when streaming to platforms like Facebook Live Shopping.

In addition to our Live Selling announcement, we are really excited to bring on Brandon Ramos as the company’s first chief operating officer. The digital ecosystem is constantly evolving, as are the needs of our subscribers. As we continue to execute growth strategies that lead to further product enhancements, it is time to grow our internal foundation with the appointment of an industry-leading chief operating officer. Brandon’s experience working with digital brands combined with his successful track record of growing internal teams, make him the perfect fit for our growing company. We are thrilled to have him join us.

Q: Can you give us more insights into your offering?

A: We sell an app in the Apple App Store, Switcher Studio. We offer several different subscription packages to meet the needs and flexibility of all of our subscribers.

Our key differentiators are that we offer a way to shoot multiple camera angles within a single video or livestream and that you use devices you already own, iPads and iPhones. We recently launched new functionality that makes it very easy to bring Switcher productions into a private virtual meeting platform like Zoom or Google Meet.

We offer remote production services for those who need help on an ongoing basis in producing their livestreams or video recordings or need help for significant one-time events. This service allows those hosting the stream to not have to worry about the content production while hosting the event..

Q: What can we expect from your company in the next 6 months? What are your plans?

A: Video is coming as the next big sales channel to small businesses – and just as paid search and social before it, as the channel matures it represents a new way for smaller sellers to reach a large audience. Over the next six months expect to see Switcher to build an experience that makes video and livestream selling easy for anyone looking to utilize this new channel.
