The Pavemint App Is Changing The Way People Park

Listen to this article

Pavemint is a peer-to-peer marketplace that connects people looking for parking with residents and business owners who have spaces to share.

Below is our interview with Randall Jamail, the Founder and CEO of Pavemint:

Randall Jamail-pavemintQ: What problem does Pavemint solve?

A: In LA, for example, the real problem with parking is that a majority of the city’s 18.6-million parking spots are on privately owned, residential or commercial properties where they are unavailable for general public use. Your home driveway while you’re away at work and the parking lot at the dry cleaners that sits empty after business hours are just a few prime examples of idle inventory waiting to be unlocked and monetized—that’s where Pavemint comes in.

Q: How can people earn extra money with Pavemint? How can they list a parking space?

A: Pavemint’s iOS app and web platform allow residents or business owners (“Hosts”) to list their spare parking spaces, which can then be rented by other users in need of a place to park their car (“Guests”). Hosts can list their space(s) in minutes, with full control over availability, rates and a number of other customizable parameters. Guests can find and reserve parking as far as 12 months in advance or search for nearby parking on demand. The app makes it easy to compare real-time prices, read reviews and get walk times to the Guest’s final destination so they can find the perfect spot, all while helping generate Hosts substantial revenue and helping the environment.

Q: What geographic markets are you focusing on currently?

A: Pavemint did it’s initial launch in Los Angeles, due to the city’s open arms to innovation and improved mobility, as well as the innate parking problems and need for increased inventory.

Q: What have been some major milestones since launch?

A: We launched with 4,000 spaces in some of the most prime areas in LA where parking was discovered to be most problematic, more than any other peer-to-peer parking app on the market. That, in itself, was a huge milestone.

Since then, we’ve surpassed many major milestones, both internally and externally.

Q: What are your plans for 2018?

A: There are many plans for 2018. Expansion into additional cities is a huge part of our goal for this year, as well as creating a Pavemint app for Android users and overcoming obstacles to inventory acquisition, such as gated driveways.
