An Interview With Tina Goodman, CEO And Founder At WENO Exchange LLC

Listen to this article

Tina Goodman is WENO’s CEO & is the majority owner and founder. WENO has operated since 2006, but only offered ePrescribing since 2011. Below is our recent interview with Tina Goodman, CEO and Founder of WENO Exchange LLC:

Q: What is WENO Exchange?

A: WENO Exchange LLC is the smaller of only two e-Prescribing Intermediaries in the US. Surescripts is the other one. Both entities route electronic prescriptions from the prescriber’s software to a pharmacy’s software. Electronic prescribing is required in many states and intermediaries are needful or else many prescriber software applications would have to manage many different connections to various pharmacy software applications.

Both entities offer various other services surrounding ePrescribing. Many entities have tried to enter this market, but Surescripts is owned and controlled by the pharmacy and pharmacy benefit manager industry which created a chicken and egg problem to building a network. WENO had to come up with novel ways to beat the chicken and egg problem. They have been around since 2011 when others have failed to survive in this very harsh competitive landscape.

Q: Can you give us more insights into your offering?

A: Besides the intermediary service, WENO provides the only free ePrescribing stand-alone application for prescribers and veterinarians. The application has their required 3rd party DEA 1311.120 compliant audit so it is also suitable for ePrescribing narcotics when state and federal 21st Century Cures Act requires this.

WENO also offers all pharmacies a way to ePrescribe free with their DEA 1311.205 compliant pharmacy stand-alone. Pharmacies that want to connect to WENO prescribers must do so by connecting their pharmacy application to the WENO intermediary service or by using WENO’s free stand-alone for pharmacies.

Q: What can we expect from your company in next 6 months? What are your plans?

A: WENO has many large corporate pharmacy and/or pharmacy application partnerships in the works. This will drastically improve WENO’s market share. The 21st Century Cures Act is propelling this change as it requires all narcotics to be electronically prescribed when Medicare Part D is the patient’s insurance for the drug. This is a federal law, so all states are included.

Q: What is the best thing about your company that people might not know about?

A: Not many entities want to work with smaller companies, like single provider practices, rural clinics, vets, practices with less than 10 providers, because it takes more effort to grow; but this is exactly the type of clients WENO wants to help. WENO fills a gap for these practitioners all over the US and US territories. WENO also can offer ePrescribing to other countries; and not many know this. WENO can still provide a personal touch and hopefully that will never change.
