Axiomm Technologies – Technology Company Focused On The Development Of Novel Consumption Methods

Listen to this article

Below is our recent interview with Andrew Wong, President of Axiomm Technologies:

Q: For those who haven’t heard of it, what is the best way to describe Axiomm Technologies?

A: Axiomm is focused on the development and commercialization of novel consumption and delivery technologies and their related manufacturing methods. We have a team of academic and industrial experts who are dedicated to discovering and commercializing new ways to enhance the absorption of vitamins, nutraceuticals and cannabinoids in ways that are scalable while at the same time providing a best-in-class consumer experience.

Q: Can you tell us something more about Axiomm’s technology?

A: We have two pillars to our technology, a robust and incredibly versatile nanoemulsion and a water-soluble powder that, when dissolved or ingested, reconstitutes a nanoemulsion. For those who aren’t familiar with the term, a “nanoemulsion” is, crudely put, the label given to an oil that has been processed in a way that makes it water-compatible. The technology is important to our customers because it allows you to infuse water or water-based products with oils that would normally form a separate oil layer or make the liquid cloudy, or both.

Our nanoemulsion, the µSHOT, and our water-soluble powder, µMIX, can both be loaded with vitamins, nutraceuticals and cannabinoids and they can be used as functional ingredients for liquid-based products – such as beverages and tinctures – and foods, respectively. In short, using our technology allows our customers to enhance the absorption of the active ingredient in their products and, in the case of psychotropic ingredients such as THC, reduce the onset time to under 10 minutes.

Q: Water-soluble technology seems to be a trending topic nowadays, what makes yours different?

A: There are very few next-generation powders like µMIX out there, so I’ll focus on nanoemulsions. Making the statement that you have water-soluble technology is akin to saying you can build cars: you really need to look under the hood to understand how it performs and, frankly, whether or not it’s even a viable product. There are many parameters that a nanoemulsion has to satisfy in order to be commercially viable. For example, some beverages are fairly acidic, and others may need to undergo pasteurization at high temperatures. Nanoemulsions have a tendency to destabilize when the pH of a solution is too low or temperatures are too high, and these are just two of many factors that can destabilize a nanoemulsion and make it ineffective.

We have yet to encounter someone who has stress-tested their water-soluble technology to the same extent as we have done with µSHOT. The importance of doing these tests lies in being able to create a truly plug-and-play solution for those who want to infuse their products with oil-based inputs such as vitamins or cannabinoids.

Q: Who could use your technology, and how do you make it available to them?

A: Anyone who wants to infuse an existing or future product with an oil-based input can use our technology. We’ve had overwhelming interest from groups who are in the hemp-derived cannabidiol (CBD) space, but the technology also works with flavor and vitamin infusions.

As for how we make it available to our customers, we have a very unique nanoemulsion precursor product that we’ve named µGOO. It enables anyone to produce a consistently best-in-class nanoemulsion by simply adding their active ingredient and processing it, resulting in a nanoemulsion with a particle size of less than 40 nanometers as measured by the dynamic light scattering test, the most pessimistic way of measuring particle size. µGOO is compatible with a wide range of oils and inputs, and it is made entirely with FDA-approved food ingredients without the use of harsh additives.

Q: Why should someone purchase your µGOO instead of conducting their own R&D?

A: R&D is time-consuming, expensive, and carries no guarantee of success. Most of our customers have actually tried to do their own R&D and, after pouring significant time and other resources into their internal initiatives, have opted to use our µGOO. The nanoemulsion produced using µGOO has: long-term stability over a wide temperature and pH range, an effective preservative regimen, minimal active ingredient degradation over time, enhanced bioavailability and rapid onset.

It’s a turnkey solution. We’ve reduced what is a difficult chemistry and engineering problem to a pre-made product that is easily processed using a simple set of instructions. Using our product, customers are able to dispense with resource-intensive R&D and focus on other key aspects of their business.

Q: What are your plans for the future?

A: As experts in this field, we have already identified many areas in which we can further improve process- or equipment-related production bottlenecks. The commercialization of these types of technologies is still fairly new – which is why so many people are struggling with it – and there is so much more that has to be done to educate the public about it. The application for our products is also very broad. We are getting significant interest from those in the US hemp industry and Canadian cannabis industry, but would like to broaden our customer and partner base to groups who operate in the nutraceutical and pharmaceutical market.
